Pretoria, South Africa – 2 June 2025: In a commanding display of speed, precision, and poise under pressure, Jaguar TCS Racing’s Nick Cassidy delivered a masterclass in treacherous wet weather conditions to win Round 11 of the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship in Shanghai. The New Zealander took pole position, led every lap, and crossed the line more than seven seconds ahead of the field—an emphatic statement of intent in a season that has often tested the team’s resilience.
The Shanghai round was delayed by over 90 minutes due to relentless rain, with the race eventually starting behind the safety car. Once green flag conditions began on lap eight, Cassidy immediately stamped his authority on the race. His decision to activate a two-minute Attack Mode early proved decisive, allowing him to break clear of the chasing pack. From there, he never looked back.
Despite pressure from Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein—who opted for a four-minute Attack Mode strategy—Cassidy’s pace in the #37 Jaguar I-TYPE 7 was unrelenting. By the time he activated his final six-minute Attack Mode on lap 22, the gap was unassailable. With both strategic execution and outright pace on his side, the win was never in doubt.
The result sees Cassidy climb to seventh in the Drivers’ World Championship standings, finally unlocking the potential that has eluded Jaguar TCS Racing throughout the season due to misfortune and on-track incidents.

Team Principal James Barclay hailed the performance as a testament to the team’s determination:
“This is a huge result for everyone’s hard work and commitment. We’ve felt the potential was there all season, but it hasn’t always translated into results. Nick was taken out of the first race this weekend when looking strong—just like Mitch in Tokyo. But the team has dug deep, and we’ve finally capitalised on the pace of the Jaguar I-TYPE 7. Nick’s drive was simply outstanding—fastest in FP3, on pole, and untouchable in the race.”
While Cassidy celebrated a career-highlight win, teammate Mitch Evans endured a more challenging outing. Starting from 13th on the grid, Evans battled valiantly but was unable to find the pace or balance needed to fight for points, finishing 14th.
“This weekend was always going to be tough with the penalties in the first race,” Evans admitted. “In wet conditions, feel is everything, and I just couldn’t get the grip or confidence I needed from the car. It’s frustrating, but we’ve shown the pace is there—we just need to piece it all together moving forward.”
For Cassidy, the Shanghai win represents not just a turnaround, but a reassertion of his title credentials.
“Winning here means so much. We’ve been working tirelessly behind the scenes to unlock this kind of performance. The team gave me a phenomenal car today, and we nailed the strategy. We’ve shown that we deserve to be fighting at the front.”
With momentum now firmly on their side, Jaguar TCS Racing will look to build on this standout performance when the championship resumes in Jakarta on 21 June for Round 12.
