Mitch Evans delivered a masterclass in determination and skill at the Miami E-Prix, fighting back from ninth on the grid to claim his first victory of the 2025/26 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship. The Jaguar TCS Racing driver not only took the chequered flag in damp and slippery conditions but also etched his name further into Formula E history with his 15th career win—the most in the championship’s 11-year existence.

Evans’ performance was flawless. In addition to clinching the win, he set the fastest lap at the Miami International Autodrome, surpassing the 1,000-point milestone and becoming just the fourth driver in Formula E history to do so. The victory also marked Ian James’ first as Jaguar TCS Racing Team Principal, highlighting a promising start to his tenure.

The race initially promised a potential double podium for Jaguar TCS Racing, with António Félix da Costa running strongly in the top positions. However, the Portuguese driver’s campaign was compromised when Andretti’s Felipe Drugovich made contact, damaging António’s I-TYPE 7 and forcing him down to eighth place. Despite the setback, António displayed resilience and collected his first points for the team.

Qualifying had been dry, and both Jaguars secured top-ten starting positions. António advanced to the Duels and lined up third, while Evans narrowly missed the Duels by 0.058 seconds and started ninth. Rain prior to the start meant the race began behind the Safety Car, transitioning to a standing start after four laps. Strategic use of Attack Mode proved decisive, with Evans and António maintaining strong positions despite challenging track conditions.

Mitch Evans Secures Record-Breaking Victory for Jaguar TCS Racing in Miami

Evans’ climb through the field was methodical. From seventh, he gained several positions during his Attack Mode deployment and engaged in a tense battle with Nico Müller for the lead. The decisive moment came on lap 27 when Evans overtook both António and Müller, expertly taking the lead out of the final corner and holding off the Porsche to the finish.

Reflecting on the win, Team Principal Ian James said: “I am absolutely thrilled for everyone in the Jaguar TCS Racing team following a superb victory in Miami. Mitch drove peerlessly in tricky conditions, claiming the record for the highest number of victories in Formula E history—all with Jaguar. António’s misfortune was disappointing, but he showed incredible grit and will bounce back in Jeddah.”

Evans described the triumph as “an incredible feeling,” adding: “To come from behind and take the record-breaking win here in Miami makes it even sweeter. This win is a great boost, and the aim is to carry this momentum into the Jeddah double-header.”

António Félix da Costa acknowledged the disappointment of his race but remained optimistic: “I’m pleased for the team and Mitch. We had great pace in the Jaguar I-TYPE 7, and while my race was ruined by someone else’s mistake, our season starts here. Jeddah can’t come fast enough.”

With this result, Evans moves to sixth in the Drivers’ World Championship, António rises to fourteenth, and Jaguar TCS Racing climbs to seventh in the Teams’ standings, with Jaguar third in the Manufacturers’ table. The championship resumes in two weeks at the Jeddah E-Prix on 13-14 February, where the team will aim to build on their strong Miami performance.
