KGM has firmly planted its flag in the electric future, and it’s done so with a vehicle that refuses to blend into the background. The fully electric Musso EV has been awarded the prestigious Product Design 2026 title at the globally respected Red Dot Design Awards, a recognition that signals far more than aesthetic appeal. It’s a declaration that practical vehicles, even those built for work and utility, can evolve into something sharper, smarter and undeniably modern.
Judged by an international panel of around 40 design experts, the Red Dot Awards are known for their uncompromising standards. Products that emerge victorious are not merely well-styled; they embody innovation, functionality and a clear sense of purpose. The Musso EV’s success in such a competitive arena speaks to KGM’s growing confidence in shaping the next chapter of electric mobility.
At first glance, the Musso EV carries a boldness that feels deliberate rather than decorative. Its proportions strike a careful balance between rugged pick-up presence and the smoother, more refined lines expected of a contemporary electric vehicle. This is not a workhorse trying to imitate a passenger car, nor a lifestyle vehicle pretending to be tough. It sits comfortably in both worlds, offering a duality that reflects how modern users actually live and work.
That philosophy continues beneath the surface. Built on a dedicated electric platform, the Musso EV uses its architecture to maximise both interior comfort and load-bearing practicality. The double cab layout accommodates up to five occupants with a level of refinement that would not feel out of place in a family SUV, while still retaining the usability demanded of a bakkie. The load bed, measuring 1.35 by 1.52 metres, offers over a thousand litres of capacity and can handle a Euro pallet without hesitation, quietly reinforcing its credentials as a serious tool for business.
Performance, too, avoids compromise. Dual electric motors deliver all-wheel drive capability and a combined output of 175 kW, giving the Musso EV the kind of responsiveness that transforms daily driving into something more immediate and controlled. A towing capacity of 2.3 tonnes ensures it remains firmly within the expectations of traditional pick-up buyers, while the 80.6 kWh lithium iron phosphate battery provides a practical balance between durability and range. With up to 290 miles of city driving and the ability to recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just over half an hour using a 120 kW DC charger, the vehicle slots neatly into both urban routines and longer working days.
What makes this achievement particularly significant is how it reframes the identity of an electric pick-up. The Musso EV does not present electrification as a compromise or a niche alternative. Instead, it treats it as an upgrade, enhancing capability, lowering emissions and introducing a quieter, more refined driving experience without sacrificing the fundamentals that matter to its audience.
For KGM, the Red Dot recognition marks a defining moment. It validates a design direction that leans into individuality while remaining grounded in real-world usability. It also strengthens the brand’s position in the UK market, where the Musso EV’s combination of affordability, capability and favourable Benefit-in-Kind taxation creates a compelling case for both private buyers and fleet operators.
In a segment often shaped by tradition, the Musso EV feels like a subtle disruption. Not loud, not rebellious, but quietly confident in its evolution. It suggests a future where utility vehicles are no longer bound by the expectations of the past, and where design is not just about how something looks, but how intelligently it fits into the rhythm of modern life.
