Broader access to £1,500 Government-backed discount makes electric mobility even more attainable for UK drivers
Milton Keynes, 16 October 2025 – Volkswagen has announced that selected models from its acclaimed ID.4 and ID.5 line-ups now qualify for the Government’s Electric Car Grant (ECG), joining the ID.3 in offering buyers an instant £1,500 saving at the point of purchase.
The move expands the appeal of Volkswagen’s all-electric ID. range, making it easier for more customers to experience the brand’s cutting-edge EV technology and sustainable design without added cost or paperwork. Prices for the newly eligible ID.4 and ID.5 variants now start from £35,495 with the grant applied, while the ID.3 Pure Essential remains the most attainable entry point to Volkswagen’s electric family at £29,360.
A Seamless Way to Save on Electric Mobility
The Government’s Electric Car Grant, introduced earlier this year, provides a direct £1,500 discount to qualifying battery electric vehicles (BEVs). Volkswagen’s inclusion of specific ID.4 and ID.5 models underlines its commitment to making electric mobility more accessible to everyday motorists.
Crucially, the grant is applied automatically at the point of purchase – meaning customers receive the benefit immediately, without having to complete any additional forms or processes.
Meeting the Highest Standards in Sustainability
Eligibility for the ECG is based on strict technical and sustainability criteria – standards Volkswagen has long integrated into its manufacturing philosophy. From pioneering the use of bio-based materials such as hemp-derived imitation leather in interiors, to championing renewable energy across its European production network, Volkswagen’s approach ensures that every ID. model reflects the brand’s wider vision for responsible mobility.

Electrifying Choice Across the ID. Range
With the latest announcement, a total of sixteen Volkswagen ID. models now qualify for the Government-backed grant. The line-up includes multiple variants of the ID.3, ID.4, and ID.5, offering a choice of battery capacities and performance levels to suit different driving needs.
The ID.3 – Volkswagen’s first purpose-built electric car – continues to set the benchmark for urban efficiency and everyday practicality. Built from the ground up as an EV, it offers net battery capacities ranging from 52 to 79 kWh, and a range of up to 369 miles (WLTP).
The ID.4, Volkswagen’s first fully-electric SUV, combines family-friendly space with dynamic design and impressive real-world range. Since its debut in 2021, it has become a global best-seller and earned the title of World Car of the Year thanks to its balance of usability, comfort, and innovation.
The ID.5, a sleek coupé-SUV sibling to the ID.4, delivers a sportier driving experience and exceptional range – now up to 339 miles (WLTP) following a comprehensive upgrade in late 2023. Its enhanced DC charging capability of up to 175 kW for all-wheel-drive models allows for rapid top-ups, adding up to 178 kilometres of range in around 10 minutes.
Continuing the Drive Toward Accessible Electrification
By expanding eligibility for the Electric Car Grant to include more models, Volkswagen is reaffirming its long-term goal: to make sustainable mobility attainable to a wider audience. The addition of the ID.4 and ID.5 ensures that drivers can enjoy advanced technology, premium design, and zero tailpipe emissions with the added incentive of government-backed support.
