Sixty years ago, a slogan thundered across the British motor racing scene: “Cars so fast, they need parachutes to stop them.” Today, that statement still holds true. From its bold beginnings on Easter Monday 1966, Santa Pod Raceway has grown from Europe’s first permanent dragstrip into a sprawling hub of speed, music, and motorsport culture.
Back then, dragsters were marvels, blasting past the finish line at 160mph, leaving crowds gasping. Modern records tell a more extreme story: 0-321mph in just 3.7 seconds, a performance that would have stunned those early spectators. Parachutes may still be the most visible sign of braking technology, but behind them, conventional brakes have also evolved to match the extraordinary pace of today’s machines.
Santa Pod is more than a race track. From March to October, weekends buzz with energy. The Live Action Arena hosts Monster Truck spectacles and daring stunt shows, while music stages bring world-class acts to the sprawling venue. Families find attractions at every corner, from funfairs to immersive lifestyle festivals. The paddock, vast and paved, accommodates over 300 teams, complete with transporters, trailers, and living quarters, making the venue a self-contained motorsport village. Midweek drift days keep adrenaline flowing even outside the marquee events.

The 60th Anniversary celebrations will spotlight the FIA/FIM European Championship weekends: The Main Event in May and the European Finals in September. Dragstalgia in June will honor the venue’s roots with historic racing machines, while automotive lifestyle festivals like Bug Jam 39 and USC-Ultimate Street Car will continue their long-standing traditions, celebrating modified and classic cars with fanfare and spectacle.
To commemorate the milestone, Santa Pod will release a special FIA Championship clothing line and a limited-edition anniversary jacket. A bookazine will chronicle the venue’s history year by year, and exclusive limited-edition paintings will offer fans a tangible slice of the track’s legacy. After six decades, Santa Pod Raceway remains a place where speed, spectacle, and sound collide, thrilling generations of motorsport enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
