Nissan Goodwood

Nissan is back at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with a full weekend of excitement and entertainment planned.

First up the famous hill will be Terry Grant, the stunt driver who entertained the crowds last year by driving the Nissan Juke the entire length of the course on two wheels, setting a world record. This year he will be back in a Nissan LEAF for another odd yet entertaining world record attempt…more details will be released closer to the Goodwood weekend.

Current FIA GT1 world champion Michael Krumm will be unleashing the full 540 horsepower of his GT-R GT1 race car and he is expected to produce one of the fastest hill climbs over the weekend.

Also setting a time will be a very different race car – the all-electric LEAF NISMO RC. This will be the first time that an electric racing car will set a timed run at the Festival of Speed.

In the Supercar Paddock, the latest GT-R known as ‘Track Pack’ will be on display, while over in the Cathedral Paddock will be its close relative, the Nissan Juke-R. This ultra fast crossover has been making big news across the world since it was announced in late 2011.

Originally only two concepts were to be built, one in right hand drive and one in left hand drive. But several serious enquiries from buyers have been received, hence Nissan has decided to build more Juke-Rs on a strictly build to order basis.

Juke-R may not be within everybody’s grasp but there is another Juke making its debut which will appeal to enthusiasts. Nissan’s motorsport arm, NISMO, has tuned the car to create a hot crossover. Due to go on sale in early 2013 in the UK, the Juke Nismo features upgrades to the engine, chassis and styling.

It’s not just Nissan’s cars which will be exciting. The Nissan stand at the FoS features a theme ‘Innovation and Excitement for all’ with the chance for everyone to re-enact the current Juke ‘Built to Thrill’ TV advertisement. Strapped horizontally onto a multi-axle motion platform and wearing a state-of-the-art 3D head-mounted display, visitors will jump out of a virtual aeroplane and collect points judged on the amount of ‘Thrill’ experienced.

Virtual gamers will also be able to participate in this year’s GT Academy competition. Sony PlayStation and Nissan have once again joined forces to take the best online gamers from around Europe and provide them with the tools to become a real life racing driver.

There are three places to be won at Goodwood for the national final, eliminating the need to enter the first online round and potentially skipping past more than 100,000 competitors.
