The Nissan LEAF has once again proven itself as the UK’s most reliable electric vehicle, according to a comprehensive study by Warranty Solutions Group (WSG). The survey, based on real-world repair claims, highlights the enduring appeal and dependability of one of Britain’s pioneering EVs.

Analyzing 1,000 repair claims from WSG warranties issued between January and December 2025, the study revealed notable differences in fault rates and repair costs across the UK’s most popular electric models. Topping the reliability rankings, the Nissan LEAF registered an impressively low claim rate of just 1.52 per cent, offering reassurance to buyers looking for a dependable and low-maintenance EV.

James Taylor, managing director of Nissan GB, emphasised the significance of the findings: “This survey uses feedback from real-world customers about the reliability of their cars, and it shows consistently strong performance from the Nissan LEAF. For customers new to this technology and perhaps considering an electric vehicle purchase for the first time, knowing it is going to be reliable is very reassuring. We know our customers love LEAF, so it’s great to see this reflected in this reliability survey too.”

Since its UK launch in 2011, the LEAF has evolved through three generations, offering an increasingly sophisticated package of technology and range. The Sunderland-built second-generation model arrived in 2018 with improved range and features, while the latest iteration – boasting up to 386 miles on a single charge – is set to hit UK showrooms imminently. With this breadth of choice, both new and used LEAF models offer accessible routes into electric vehicle ownership. The new car also qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, further enhancing its appeal.

Martin Binnee, Operations Director at WSG, attributed the LEAF’s reliability to its proven engineering: “The LEAF’s long-established electric drivetrain, straightforward engineering and proven track record for durability have all contributed to its standout reliability, continuing to translate into dependable ownership and fewer faults.”

He also pointed to the wider implications for EV ownership: “While some EVs are proving extremely reliable, when faults do occur the cost of repair can be significant – particularly for premium models and vehicles with advanced electrical and thermal systems. For consumers, this means looking beyond fuel savings and factoring repair severity into the total cost of ownership. For dealers and warranty providers, it reinforces why EV-specific warranty cover is no longer optional, but essential to protect customers and maintain confidence as electric adoption continues to grow.”

Warranty Solutions Group, the UK’s fastest-growing warranty and aftersales specialist, continues to provide bespoke warranty, insurance and data solutions for dealer groups, independent dealers and OEMs, supporting both customers and industry partners as the EV market matures.

With its long-standing reputation for reliability, a growing range of models, and homegrown production in Sunderland, the Nissan LEAF remains a benchmark for dependable electric mobility in the UK. For buyers seeking peace of mind and accessible ownership, the choice has never been clearer.
