Nissan Pledges Long-Term Participation in Formula E with GEN4 Technology, Aligning with Electrification Goals Under Ambition 2030
YOKOHAMA, Japan – Nissan has declared its dedication to remain involved in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship up until the year 2030, showcasing its commitment to electrification as outlined in its Ambition 2030 strategy. The agreement spans Seasons 13 (2026/27) through 16 (2029/30), during which the championship will feature its most advanced GEN4 technology to date, maintaining its position as a leading platform for electric mobility innovation.
At a press event in Tokyo, preceding Japan’s inaugural Formula E race, Tommaso Volpe, the managing director and team principal of the Nissan Formula E Team, along with FIA Senior Circuit Sport Director Marek Nawarecki and Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds, signed the participation document for the upcoming seasons. This makes Nissan the pioneering manufacturer to confirm its participation until 2030, emphasizing its long-standing involvement in the sport which will extend to at least 12 years, marking the longest commitment by the company to any FIA World Championship.
Formula E serves as an ideal proving ground for Nissan’s electric vehicle advancements, challenging the company against formidable competitors. This move is a key part of Nissan’s long-term vision, Ambition 2030, which focuses on electrification. Under this vision, Nissan plans to launch 34 electrified models by 2030, expecting electrified vehicles to constitute 40% of its global model mix by fiscal year 2026, with ambitions to increase this to 60% by decade’s end.
The adoption of GEN4 technology in Formula E aligns with Nissan’s aim to lead in sustainable racing and supports its environmental objectives. These advancements include improved energy efficiency, with regeneration capacity up to 700kW, increased power output to 600kW, and new safety features, marking a significant evolution in electric vehicle racing technology. This collaboration between Nissan, the FIA, and Formula E underscores a shared commitment to electrification and the progression of electric motorsport.

Since entering the sport in Season 5, Nissan has continuously expanded its Formula E operations in pursuit of greater achievements. This includes relocating the Nissan Formula E Team’s headquarters to Paris to leverage superior facilities.
Nissan, a global brand with operations in all Formula E calendar countries, utilizes the championship to advocate for EV technology worldwide. With R&D centers in 16 markets, manufacturing plants in 13, and design studios in 5, Nissan’s extensive global presence underscores the significance of Formula E to its worldwide strategy. The company’s commitment to the series until 2030 highlights the championship’s crucial role in Nissan’s global commitment to making electric vehicles widely available, contributing to a cleaner, safer, and more inclusive world.
