Rosslyn, South Africa – 23 January 2026 – In a landmark move for South Africa’s automotive sector, Chery SA has announced its agreement to acquire Nissan’s manufacturing assets in Rosslyn, including the adjacent stamping plant. The transaction, expected to be completed in mid-2026 following regulatory approvals, will see the majority of Nissan’s Rosslyn workforce offered employment under Chery SA on terms closely aligned with their current conditions.
Jordi Vila, President of Nissan Africa, said: “Nissan has a long and proud history in South Africa and has been working to find the best solution for our people, our customers and our partners. External factors have had a well-known impact on the utilisation of the Rosslyn plant and its future viability within Nissan. Through this agreement, we’re able to secure employment for the majority of our workforce, thereby also preserving opportunities for our supplier network. This move ensures that the Rosslyn site will continue contributing to the South African automotive sector.”
The agreement marks a strategic step for Chery SA, reinforcing its local manufacturing presence while safeguarding skilled jobs and the broader automotive supply chain. Employees currently based at the Rosslyn facilities will transition to Chery SA, helping maintain continuity and stability for the region’s automotive workforce.
Despite the transfer of manufacturing assets, Nissan will maintain a strong presence in South Africa. The company will continue offering its full range of vehicles and services, with several new launches slated for 2026, including the Nissan Tekton and Nissan Patrol. This ensures South African customers will continue to enjoy Nissan’s latest innovations without disruption.
Industry analysts view the acquisition as a positive development for South Africa’s automotive landscape. By combining Chery’s growth ambitions with Nissan’s established operations, the deal safeguards employment, supports local suppliers, and strengthens the country’s manufacturing footprint.
With this agreement, Rosslyn’s automotive legacy continues, positioning the plant and its workforce for a new chapter under Chery SA while ensuring Nissan remains a key player in the South African market.
