London, UK – 30 September 2025 – Nissan has reinforced its reputation for delivering safety without compromise, as its light commercial vehicle (LCV) line-up achieved outstanding results in the latest Euro NCAP assessments. With the safety authority introducing a star-based system to replace its former medal grading, Nissan’s Townstar and Interstar both secured the maximum five stars, while the Primastar earned a highly commendable four-star rating.

From Gold to Five Stars

The transition to Euro NCAP’s star-based methodology marks an important milestone for the industry. Where once vans were awarded bronze, silver or gold, they are now rated under a system more familiar to consumers across automotive categories. For Nissan, this shift brings added recognition. The versatile Townstar, previously graded gold – equivalent to four stars – has now advanced to five-star status, the highest accolade possible.

A major factor in Townstar’s elevation was the exceptional performance of its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system. Capable of detecting both vehicles and vulnerable road users, including cyclists and pedestrians, the technology was praised for its reliability in diverse scenarios. Euro NCAP noted that the system “avoids collisions in almost all test conditions,” with consistent performance whether approaching a stationary vehicle or one offset in the lane. The van’s Lane Departure Warning System was also commended, having “performed well in all tests.”

Safety Across the Range

While the Townstar claimed headlines, its stablemates also performed strongly. The Interstar, Nissan’s largest LCV, matched the Townstar’s five-star performance, reflecting a robust package of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). Meanwhile, the medium-sized Primastar secured four stars, with Euro NCAP describing it as “a good choice for those seeking a safe commercial van.”

The breakdown of scores further underlines Nissan’s commitment:

  • Townstar: 79% for safe driving, 74% for crash avoidance, 80% post-crash safety.
  • Interstar: 73% for safe driving, 76% for crash avoidance, 80% post-crash safety.
  • Primastar: 68% for safe driving, 61% for crash avoidance, 80% post-crash safety.

These results reflect the enhanced protocols introduced by Euro NCAP since 2023, which place greater emphasis on ADAS performance and vulnerable road user protection, particularly in complex conditions such as night-time cycling scenarios.

Reassurance for Businesses and Drivers

For both private and corporate customers, the results provide significant peace of mind. Nissan’s LCVs are equipped with their advanced safety suite as standard across all grades, ensuring accessibility rather than exclusivity.

Francesco Russiello, LCV Category Manager at Nissan, commented:
“The outstanding performance of our Light Commercial Vehicle range across all safety categories demonstrates our clear commitment and dedication to improving passenger and road safety. Nissan is at the forefront when it comes to the advanced suite of technologies that are standard on all grades of our LCVs, identifying potential dangers and helping the driver to avoid an accident. The information provided by Euro NCAP’s thorough testing and rating programme is crucial for consumers to truly understand the various safety technologies we have introduced. It’s great to see our efforts recognised in this way, but more importantly, it’s hugely reassuring for our customers.”

Backed by Comprehensive Cover

Safety is only part of the reassurance package. Every Nissan LCV comes with a five-year or 100,000-mile warranty, providing bumper-to-bumper protection alongside five years of roadside assistance. For business users and fleet operators, this means confidence not only in advanced technologies but also in long-term reliability and support.

A Benchmark for the Segment

By excelling under Euro NCAP’s new and more stringent assessment criteria, Nissan’s Townstar, Interstar and Primastar set a clear benchmark for safety in the LCV sector. As the demands of urban mobility, logistics and small business operations evolve, Nissan’s proven ability to combine practicality with leading-edge safety ensures its vans remain trusted partners on the road.
