Spa-Francorchamps – 26 June 2025 – Maserati has once again cemented its racing pedigree at one of the world’s most revered circuits. As the motorsport world converges on Spa-Francorchamps for the 2025 edition of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa, the Trident brand ushers in a stirring celebration — marking 20 years since the legendary MC12 claimed its first victory at the Belgian endurance classic.
More than a commemorative gesture, this moment signals another bold step towards Maserati’s centenary in motorsport, a journey that began in 1926 with the Tipo 26’s triumph at the Targa Florio. Now, with eyes on 2026 and a century of racing excellence, Maserati celebrates not only its past glory but its present ambition — embodied in the form of the fearsome MCXtrema.
A Legend Reborn: MCXtrema as Official Leading Car
In a scene that fused nostalgia with raw performance, the MCXtrema led the traditional parade of cars from the Spa circuit into the heart of the city. Commanding the procession was multiple world champion Andrea Bertolini — a driver integral to the MC12’s success — at the wheel of Maserati’s limited-run, track-only super sports car.
Adorned in an evocative blue-and-black livery inspired by the Vitaphone Racing Team’s championship-winning MC12 GT1, the MCXtrema turned heads with a modern twist on a classic motif. The bonnet features a striking trident in contrast, while the flanks and tail carry subtle blue-on-black typography — a tapestry of Maserati’s most iconic cars, drivers, and historic circuits. Every design detail speaks to a heritage born on the world’s most demanding racetracks.
This special edition livery pays homage to a golden era of GT dominance. The MC12’s maiden win in 2005 at Spa — achieved in treacherous weather by the formidable trio of Michael Bartels, Timo Scheider, and Eric van de Poele — remains etched in endurance racing history. It was a victory repeated in 2006 and again in 2008, each time reinforcing the MC12’s mythical status.
GT2 Return: Maserati Back in the Thick of the Action
Beyond its ceremonial role, Maserati’s racing involvement remains vibrantly competitive. The 2025 season’s third round of the GT2 European Series by Pirelli sees the return of two MC20-derived Maserati GT2 cars to the grid. In the Pro-Am class, DINAMIC Motorsport fields car number 7 with Roberto Pampanini and Mauro Calamia, while Philippe Prette carries the banner in the Am class behind the wheel of LP Racing’s number 1.
These entries mark a significant chapter in Maserati Corse’s return to top-tier GT racing, with the MC20 platform — both in road-going and track-specific guises — proving a worthy heir to the Trident’s motorsport lineage.

Supporting the Grid: Maserati’s Full Range of Official Cars
This year, Maserati’s footprint at Spa extends beyond competition. Through an official partnership with SRO Motorsports Group, the marque will supply the full range of operational vehicles for the event. These include safety cars, leading cars, and medical vehicles, showcasing the breadth of Maserati’s current performance lineup.
Leading the pack is the MCXtrema, supported by the GT2 Stradale and MC20, along with two Maserati Grecale SUVs — the high-performance Trofeo powered by the 530-hp Nettuno V6, and the all-electric Folgore variant, underlining the brand’s embrace of both heritage and future mobility.
Maserati’s Legacy in Motion
“Celebrating together with the MCXtrema the twentieth anniversary of the MC12’s first historic victory at the 24 Hours of Spa is not only a tribute to the triumphs of the past,” said Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, “but also marks a significant step towards our upcoming centenary in motorsport. It embodies Maserati’s spirit of constant innovation, passion and performance and brings our racing DNA to life on the track.”
Conti’s words reflect the essence of Maserati’s approach — not simply honouring history, but building upon it. The sight of the MCXtrema at the head of the field on the revered Spa-Francorchamps circuit is more than symbolic. It is a declaration of intent.
The Road to 100 Years
The 2025 edition of the CrowdStrike 24 Hours of Spa stands as both a milestone and a marker. From the tight hairpins of Monte Carlo to the undulating curves of Spa, Maserati continues to retrace its own legacy while writing new chapters in the book of motorsport.
As the brand edges closer to its centenary in 2026, the MCXtrema’s appearance is a high-octane reminder of a journey defined by vision, victory, and the relentless pursuit of speed. At Spa, where legends are made, Maserati’s past and future meet — loud, proud, and unmistakably fast.
