Maserati has continued its extensive vehicle development programme with a fleet of camouflaged GranTurismo, GranCabrio and Grecale prototypes recently spotted undergoing road testing around Modena, Italy.
The prototypes were photographed near Maserati’s historic Viale Ciro Menotti facility, the long-standing home of the Trident brand and the location where the company’s vehicles are conceived and developed by its engineering teams. The surrounding Modena region remains central to Maserati’s development operations thanks to its diverse network of driving routes, which includes dense urban streets, winding hillside roads, provincial routes and high-speed motorways.
According to Maserati, the ongoing testing programme is focused on gathering critical data and refining vehicle dynamics across a variety of real-world driving conditions. Professional test drivers are carrying out the evaluations as engineers continue the fine-tuning process ahead of future developments tied to the models.
The GranTurismo and GranCabrio remain central pillars of Maserati’s modern performance line-up. Both models blend traditional grand touring characteristics with modern technology and are available with either the brand’s twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine or fully electric Folgore powertrains. The GranTurismo Folgore notably marked a major milestone for Maserati as the company’s first fully electric production model.
The Grecale SUV also plays a crucial role in Maserati’s broader strategy, offering buyers a combination of luxury, performance and everyday usability. Available with hybrid and fully electric Folgore derivatives, the Grecale reflects the brand’s push toward electrification while maintaining the distinctive performance DNA associated with the Trident badge.
Maserati’s current portfolio stretches well beyond its core grand tourers and SUVs. The brand’s flagship MC family includes the MCPURA coupe and MCPURA Cielo convertible, both powered by the in-house Nettuno V6 engine that incorporates Formula 1-derived technology into a road-going production vehicle.
Track-focused offerings such as the GT2 Stradale and the limited-production MCXtrema further reinforce Maserati’s motorsport ambitions and performance credentials. The GT2 Stradale serves as a road-legal evolution of Maserati’s GT2 race car programme, while the MCXtrema, limited to just 62 units globally, pushes the brand’s engineering capabilities to the extreme as a dedicated track machine.
Alongside its expanding electrified line-up, Maserati continues investing heavily in bespoke luxury experiences through its Fuoriserie customisation programme, heritage preservation initiatives under Maserati Classiche, and the growing Maserati Corse racing division.
As testing continues on the roads surrounding Modena, the camouflaged prototypes offer another glimpse into Maserati’s ongoing efforts to balance tradition, performance and electrification in the evolving luxury automotive landscape.
