Kia Corporation has officially unveiled the exterior design of its PV5 Passenger and PV5 Cargo models ahead of the highly anticipated 2025 Kia EV Day in Tarragona, Spain. These models mark the brand’s first dedicated Platform Beyond Vehicle (PBV) offerings, heralding a new era of versatile, modular electric mobility solutions tailored to a wide range of consumer and commercial needs.
A Glimpse into Kia’s PBV Vision
First previewed by the Concept PV5 at CES 2024, the mid-sized PV5 represents Kia’s ambitious PBV strategy, which aims to redefine mobility through unparalleled flexibility, customisation, and innovative modularity. By leveraging Kia’s industry-leading EV technology, the PV5 lineup is designed to meet the demands of both passenger and cargo transport with intelligent, future-ready solutions.
Kia will initially offer the PV5 in two primary configurations: the PV5 Passenger Van, optimised for comfortable commuting, and the PV5 Cargo Van, tailored for efficient freight transport. Additional derivative and specialised variants will be revealed at the 2025 Kia EV Day, expanding the PV5’s adaptability across multiple applications.
Futuristic Design with a Modular Edge
The PV5’s exterior design establishes a distinct identity that sets it apart from traditional light commercial vehicles. With a futuristic yet highly functional aesthetic, the PV5 embodies Kia’s ‘Opposites United’ design philosophy, which seamlessly blends technical precision with bold styling.
“At its core, the PV5 is a versatile platform designed to serve a variety of mobility needs while maintaining a cohesive and futuristic design language,” said Karim Habib, Head of Kia Global Design. “Each model within the PV5 lineup exudes a strong, confident character, defined by its bold, solid stance and cutting-edge modularity.”
From the front, both PV5 Passenger and Cargo models share a strikingly clean and bold upper section. Signature technical lighting is integrated seamlessly into the A-pillar, while a robust lower body reinforces the PV5’s ultra-capable, almost off-road-inspired presence. Black geometric wheel arch claddings and rocker panels enhance durability while adding a rugged edge.
The rear of the PV5 continues this theme with interchangeable lower bumper corners, balancing functionality and aesthetic appeal.

PV5 Passenger Van: Modern, Spacious, and Refined
The PV5 Passenger Van is designed with both aesthetics and practicality in mind. A refined geometric profile is complemented by an expansive window area, made possible by a low beltline, ensuring excellent visibility. The bold black graphic surrounds framing the glass surfaces contrast sharply against the body colour, reinforcing the vehicle’s contemporary and high-tech appeal.
Signature elements include:
- Sleek, high-tech lighting that enhances the vehicle’s futuristic identity.
- SUV-inspired rugged details, such as robust black wheel arch claddings and rocker panels.
- A single lift-up tailgate door, seamlessly integrated with a strong rear bumper that mirrors the protective design language of the front end.
- A chamfered D-pillar line, extending to the rear to amplify the vehicle’s sculpted volume.
PV5 Cargo Van: Optimised for Practicality and Efficiency
Designed with functionality at its core, the PV5 Cargo Van shares the same geometric styling as the Passenger model but with an emphasis on maximising space efficiency. Clean, well-structured aesthetics and a sense of order define its design, ensuring it stands out from conventional light commercial vehicles.
Key highlights of the PV5 Cargo include:
- Twin side-opening tailgate doors, offering optimal accessibility for loading and unloading.
- A boxier profile, engineered for enhanced cargo capacity.
- A sleek yet purposeful rear design, maintaining a solid, modern appearance while improving practicality.
- Modular adaptability, allowing businesses to customise their PV5 Cargo to meet specific logistical needs.
