Kia is sharpening its vision for next-generation mobility with the introduction of the PV5 Crew, a purpose-built solution designed to dissolve the traditional boundaries between passenger transport and cargo operations. Developed as part of the brand’s expanding Platform Beyond Vehicle strategy, the PV5 Crew transforms adaptability from a feature into a core philosophy, giving businesses the ability to reshape their vehicle’s role in seconds.
At the heart of the PV5 Crew is an elegantly simple yet highly effective innovation: a tool-free seat lever system that enables a near-instant transition between configurations. With a single motion, operators can shift from a two-seat cargo-focused layout to a five-seat crew arrangement. The mechanism simultaneously releases the recliner, tips the seat cushion, and repositions the partition, eliminating downtime and removing the friction typically associated with vehicle reconfiguration. It is a solution that feels less like a mechanical process and more like a fluid gesture, aligning with the pace of modern operations.
This flexibility is not an afterthought but a product of Kia’s ‘Made In Plant’ conversion strategy. By integrating conversion directly into the manufacturing process, Kia ensures that the PV5 Crew arrives as a cohesive, factory-engineered solution rather than a retrofitted compromise. Developed alongside specialist conversion partners, the approach unlocks higher levels of customisation while maintaining the structural integrity and quality control of a factory build. For fleet operators juggling shifting daily demands, this means a vehicle that adapts as quickly as the schedule changes.
Inside, the PV5 Crew is designed with real-world utility in mind. An integrated L-track mounting system allows cargo and equipment to be secured with precision, supporting industries where organisation and safety are critical. Whether transporting tools for maintenance teams, equipment for landscaping projects, or supplies for airport operations, the system provides a flexible anchor point for a wide range of add-ons. Practical touches such as a durable, non-slip floor and easily accessible Vehicle-to-Load outlets further enhance usability, turning the cargo area into a functional workspace rather than just a storage zone.
The numbers reinforce this sense of versatility. In five-seat mode, the cargo area measures 1,278mm, expanding to 1,965mm when configured for maximum load capacity. Cargo volume grows from 2.4 cubic metres to 3.7 cubic metres, offering a meaningful range that accommodates both people and payload without compromise. This duality makes the PV5 Crew particularly suited to businesses that operate across multiple roles within a single day.
Underpinning the vehicle is Kia’s E-GMP.S architecture, a platform engineered specifically for service-oriented electric vehicles. It provides the structural backbone for durability and modularity while enabling advanced connectivity features, including seamless integration with fleet management systems. This digital layer ensures that the PV5 Crew is not only physically adaptable but also intelligently connected, capable of fitting into increasingly data-driven operational environments.
Powering the PV5 Crew is a 51.5kWh battery, delivering an estimated all-electric range of up to 283 kilometres under WLTP standards, pending final homologation. With a targeted maximum payload of 625 kilograms, the vehicle balances efficiency with capability, offering a practical solution for urban and regional use cases where emissions regulations and operating costs are under increasing scrutiny.
The PV5 Crew also benefits from Kia’s broader flexible conversion programme, which allows for additional market-specific adaptations. Existing PV5 Cargo models can be reconfigured into Crew variants, while further bespoke layouts can be developed to meet unique operational requirements. This ecosystem approach extends the lifecycle and utility of each vehicle, reinforcing Kia’s commitment to long-term value.
Set to enter production on 30 April 2026, the PV5 Crew signals a decisive step forward in Kia’s PBV ambitions. It is not merely a new model but a rethinking of what a commercial vehicle can be: a shape-shifter for the working world, equally at home carrying people, cargo, or both in a single seamless rhythm.
