Kia’s rise in the light commercial vehicle space has accelerated once again, with the Kia PV5 Cargo securing both the ‘Van of the Year’ and ‘Compact Van of the Year’ titles at the 2026 What Van? Awards. It marks another milestone for Kia’s Purpose Built Vehicle (PBV) strategy, reinforcing the brand’s presence in a sector rapidly shifting toward electrification, efficiency and smarter fleet solutions.
Held at the London Hilton Bankside hotel, the What Van? Awards rank among the industry’s most prestigious accolades, judged by a panel of respected independent experts from across the UK’s LCV landscape. The PV5’s dual victory underscores its immediate and substantial impact just as the first customer units reach UK roads.
A Standout Electric LCV from the Start
From its debut, the PV5 Cargo has drawn attention for the way its sophisticated design blends usability with advanced electrification. At the awards, judges praised its strong single-charge range, poised steering, refined cabin and overall drivability. It reinforced this performance with a perfect 10/10 score in a separate What Van? review, the only electric LCV to receive such a rating so far in 2026.
James Dallas, Editor of What Van?, noted that “‘The Kia PV5 Cargo is a well-researched and meticulously developed electric van that has immediately gone to the top of its class with its sophisticated, versatile design coupled with outstanding battery range.’”
This recognition reflects not only its engineering but also Kia’s commitment to delivering PBVs shaped around real-world operator needs.
Rapidly Growing Awards Collection
The PV5’s recognition at the What Van? Awards builds on significant momentum. In little more than a year, it has gone from winning ‘One to Watch’ at the 2025 What Van? Awards to sweeping multiple categories in 2026. Its trophy cabinet now includes the ‘2026 International Van of the Year’, ‘Best Electric Van’ and overall ‘Van of the Year’ from the 2026 Parkers Van and Pickup Awards, and ‘The Sun Van of the Year’ at the News UK Awards.
Its versatility extends across the range, with the PV5 Passenger model being named ‘Family Car of the Year’ at the BBC TopGear.com Awards 2026.
Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, said: “Winning ‘Van of the Year’ at the What Van? Awards is a tremendous endorsement for the PV5… We believe PV5 sets new benchmarks for the industry, thanks to its flexible platform, advanced electrified powertrain, and great value for customers.”
Real-World Capability Proven on the Road
Beyond awards, the PV5 Cargo has demonstrated its technical capability under rigorous conditions. In October 2025, it earned a Guinness World Records™ title for travelling 430.84 miles (693.38 km) on a single charge while carrying its maximum payload. The achievement offered a tangible proof point for fleets evaluating range confidence and operational efficiency.
Flexible Configurations for Diverse Commercial Needs
The PV5 Cargo initially arrives in L2/H1 configuration with a choice of two battery packs tailored to either range or payload requirements:
- Long Range: up to 258 miles (WLTP Combined) and a payload of 690 kg
- Standard Range: up to 184 miles (WLTP Combined) with up to 790 kg payload
Further body styles—including L1/H1, L2/H2, Chassis Cab, and Crew variants—will expand the line-up in 2026, broadening its suitability for trades, logistics, local delivery services and fleet operators looking for cleaner transport solutions.
With every PBV backed by Kia’s industry-leading seven-year/100,000-mile warranty (eight years for the battery pack), the PV5 offers long-term confidence alongside its daily performance strengths.
Building a New Era for Kia PBVs
The PV5 Cargo and Passenger models are available to order now through Kia’s newly established PBV Centre network, with first UK customer deliveries expected before the end of the year.
The PV5 also sets the tone for what comes next. Following its launch, Kia plans to introduce the larger PV7 in 2027 and PV9 in 2029, broadening the PBV family and signalling the brand’s long-term commitment to electrified commercial mobility.
As the LCV sector continues its transformation, the PV5’s rapid ascent—marked by critical acclaim, real-world achievements and customer-ready versatility—cements its status as one of the most compelling electric vans in the market today.
