The latest Hino 700, launched in South Africa earlier this year, is quickly proving its worth in a variety of challenging applications across the region. Among these, its role in revolutionizing cattle transport in Namibia has become a shining example of innovation meeting practicality. With outstanding fuel efficiency, low total cost of ownership, and rugged construction, the Hino 700 has carved a niche in Namibia’s agricultural sector, particularly during trying times.
Built for the Toughest Roads and Heaviest Loads
The Hino 700 2841 6×4 freight carrier tractor has been paired with a custom-built trailer from Motor Body Construction (MBC) in Johannesburg. This formidable combination can carry a total of 22 tons, making it a game-changer for cattle farmers. With a capacity to transport up to 56 oxen weighing 230 kg each—28 on the truck and another 28 on the trailer—it’s a logistical powerhouse.
Designed with Namibia’s challenging road conditions in mind, the rig seamlessly handles rough gravel tracks and paved highways alike. Dealer principal Theo Redelinghuys of Gobabis Toyota, who spearheaded the project, reports that the Hino 700 combination has already covered over 28,000 km with remarkable efficiency, delivering an average fuel consumption of 2.6 km per litre.

Supporting Farmers During Hardship
The service, introduced by Gobabis Toyota, provides a lifeline to the local farming community, particularly during droughts. By offering affordable tariffs to transport cattle to auctions or abattoirs, the Hino 700 combination is addressing a critical need for farmers in the vast Omaheke district and beyond.
“Gobabis Hino recognized the need to assist cattle farmers struggling with an ageing fleet of trucks and trailers,” explains Redelinghuys. “The Hino 700 is a perfect fit for the task, with its rear axle setup featuring diff-lock and cross-lock for added traction, advanced driver safety features, and Hino’s hallmark attributes of quality, durability, and reliability.”
A Bold Statement of Confidence
To reflect the innovation and resilience the truck brings to Namibia’s cattle farming industry, the Hino 700 combination has been boldly branded in the style of Hino’s Dakar Rally racing trucks, courtesy of Vista Branding in Gobabis. The striking design not only adds a touch of flair but also reinforces the truck’s reputation for strength and performance.
Positive Reception Across the Community
Feedback from the farming community has been overwhelmingly positive, with many farmers praising the reliability and cost-effectiveness of the service. The Hino 700’s ability to navigate the challenging terrain of Namibia while keeping operational costs in check has established it as a trusted partner for livestock transport.
As Namibia’s farmers continue to face environmental and economic challenges, the Hino 700 stands out as a symbol of progress and resilience. By addressing critical logistical needs with a solution tailored to local conditions, Hino and Gobabis Toyota have not only enhanced the livelihoods of farmers but also underscored the versatility and reliability of the Hino 700.
In Namibia’s expansive and unforgiving landscapes, the Hino 700 has proven to be more than just a truck—it’s a vital tool for survival and success.
