Ferrari Icons Lead Villa d’Este Auction Showcase

Broad Arrow Auctions has unveiled an extraordinary catalogue for its second annual Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este sale, assembling a carefully curated collection that reads like a love letter to Ferrari’s most evocative eras. Set against the serene backdrop of Lake Como at Villa Erba on 16–17 May, the auction brings together more than 75 collector cars, with a glittering core of 20 Ferraris spanning nearly seven decades of performance, design, and motorsport heritage.

At the centre of this prancing cavalcade sits a modern masterpiece, the 2023 Ferrari Daytona SP3. Estimated between €6.5 million and €8.5 million, this single-owner example has travelled just 743 kilometres, making it less a used car and more a preserved moment in time. Finished in Rosso Magma Tri-Coat with a vivid Blu Elettrico Alcantara interior, the car pairs visual theatre with meticulous craftsmanship, its extensive carbon fibre detailing underscoring a philosophy obsessed with weight and purity.

The Daytona SP3 forms part of Ferrari’s exclusive ‘Icona Series,’ a programme that distils the marque’s racing mythology into contemporary road-going sculptures. Its inspiration traces back to Ferrari’s emphatic 1-2-3 finish at the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona, a victory steeped in rivalry and redemption. That spirit has been reinterpreted through the lens of modern engineering, with designer Jason Furtado working under Flavio Manzoni to channel the raw silhouettes of Ferrari’s prototype racers into a car that feels both nostalgic and futuristic.

Beneath its sculpted bodywork lies a naturally aspirated 6.5-litre V12 producing 829 horsepower, the most powerful engine ever fitted to a road-going Ferrari. Derived from the 812 Competizione, it has been comprehensively reworked with titanium internals, ensuring not just performance but mechanical poetry at full throttle. With only 600 units produced and all sold before production began, the SP3 stands as one of the most desirable modern Ferraris on the collector market today.

While the Daytona SP3 commands the spotlight, it is far from a solo act. The catalogue reads like a curated gallery, where each Ferrari tells its own story. A uniquely specified 2008 Ferrari 430 Scuderia, finished in the striking Porsche Grün with gold racing accents, offers a rare visual departure from traditional Ferrari hues. With fewer than 10,000 kilometres and an array of carbon fibre enhancements, it captures the raw, track-focused ethos that defined Ferrari’s special series models of the era.

Equally compelling is the presence of a Blu Pozzi 2004 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, a manual 2004 Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, and the increasingly coveted 1996 Ferrari F512M, each representing distinct chapters in Ferrari’s evolution. These cars bridge the analogue and digital ages, where tactile driving experiences meet the dawn of modern performance engineering.

The auction’s depth extends further into Ferrari’s golden years, with classics such as the 1956 Ferrari 250 GT Boano Alloy Coupe, the elegant 1968 Ferrari 330 GTS, and the timeless 1972 Ferrari Dino 246 GT. These models embody a period when craftsmanship and character were inseparable, their designs still whispering stories of open roads and racing circuits decades later.

Later icons, including the 1990 Ferrari F40 and the 2022 Ferrari 812 Competizione, illustrate how Ferrari has continuously redefined the boundaries of speed and desirability. From turbocharged legends to naturally aspirated swan songs, the collection forms a narrative arc that spans the brand’s relentless pursuit of excellence.

Broad Arrow’s approach to this auction is notably restrained in its philosophy, favouring precision over spectacle. Rather than assembling a vast inventory, the focus remains on carefully selected consignments that resonate with seasoned collectors. This deliberate curation ensures that each car is not merely an exhibit but a meaningful addition to Ferrari’s ongoing story.

As anticipation builds for the Villa d’Este auction, the digital catalogue now offers collectors and enthusiasts a window into this rarefied world. With bidding interest expected from across the globe, the event promises to be more than a sale. It becomes a gathering of automotive history, where engineering brilliance, design artistry, and emotional resonance converge on the shores of Lake Como.
