Gqeberha – On World Literacy Day, Isuzu Motors South Africa (IMSAf), in collaboration with the Read Education Trust, reaffirmed its commitment to building a culture of learning and empowering future generations. Under the inspiring theme “Empower Minds, Change Lives,” the automotive leader celebrated the transformative power of literacy with young learners from three local schools: Kayser Ngxwana, St Albans and Khulile Primary.
Cultivating a Love of Reading
The celebration was more than a ceremonial occasion; it was a living example of how access to books and structured literacy programmes can shape young lives. Learners proudly showcased how IMSAf’s donation of library boxes has sparked an enduring love of reading, strengthened their confidence in public speaking and enriched their classroom experience.
Storytelling sessions and learning-through-play activities brought the joy of reading to life, allowing children to explore new worlds and develop essential lifelong skills. This hands-on approach to literacy not only improves reading ability but also nurtures imagination, critical thinking and self-expression—cornerstones of holistic education.
A Project with Measurable Impact
Launched in 2024, IMSAf’s literacy initiative was designed to improve literacy levels and nurture key communication skills among primary school learners. Speaking at the event, IMSAf’s Executive Vice President for Corporate Services, Celestin Ndhlovu, underscored the company’s long-term commitment to education.
“Education is one of our key focus areas and we have made a commitment to contribute towards improving its quality while helping to close South Africa’s skills gap by aligning learning outcomes with curriculum requirements across key grades,” Ndhlovu said.
He further highlighted the importance of empowering teachers alongside learners: “To ensure we drive a holistic approach, we have extended our efforts to empowering educators through comprehensive training and ongoing support, laying a strong foundation for long-term educational success. We are proud of the improvement rate we have witnessed in our partner schools since the inception of the project in 2024.”

Partnerships for Sustainable Change
The success of this initiative reflects the strength of collaboration. By working closely with the Department of Basic Education, education-focused NGOs and school leadership, IMSAf ensures that its efforts are not isolated interventions, but part of a wider ecosystem of progress. These partnerships are designed to bridge learning gaps and prepare learners for the demands of a rapidly changing world.
The World Literacy Day celebration underscored this vision: empowering children not just to read, but to dream and thrive. It’s an investment in the next generation of innovators, leaders and problem-solvers.
Building on a Broader Education Vision
This literacy drive is one pillar of IMSAf’s wider Education strategy, which focuses on creating sustainable opportunities for learning and development across South Africa. From upgrading school infrastructure and introducing digital literacy initiatives, to championing coding, robotics and STEM-related programmes, the company is actively working to address educational challenges facing the nation’s youth.
Through these efforts, IMSAf is helping to close the skills gap and inspire future careers in science, technology and engineering—sectors critical to South Africa’s economic growth.
A Future Defined by Possibility
World Literacy Day in Gqeberha was a celebration of possibility: of young minds opened by books, of teachers empowered to guide, and of a community united by the belief that education can change lives.
For IMSAf, it is more than a corporate responsibility; it is a long-term commitment to building a society where every child has the tools to read, learn and lead. Through literacy, the seeds of opportunity are sown—cultivating a generation ready to write South Africa’s next chapter of success.
