Abu Dhabi, UAE – April 23, 2024 – On April 27th, the Yas Marina Circuit will be the stage for an unprecedented event in automotive sports history: the first ASPIRE Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL). This landmark event is expected to draw an audience of over 10,000 fans, keen to witness the future of racing unfold.

The competition will see eight teams from across the globe compete in the world’s largest autonomous car race. Teams like Code19 Racing from the USA and Constructor University from Germany and Switzerland will vie for a significant prize of US$2.25 million. Teams will employ their coding expertise, AI algorithms, and software development skills to power Dallara Super Formula SF23 cars, known for their blistering speeds of up to 300 km/h.

This event marks a historic first with four autonomous vehicles racing simultaneously on the track. Highlights include an AI versus human race featuring former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, showcasing a head-to-head challenge between man and machine without GPS assistance.

H.E. Faisal Al Bannai, Secretary General of the Advanced Technology Research Council, remarked on the occasion, “By pushing technological boundaries, we unveil new scientific frontiers. This race not only showcases the prowess of advanced coding and AI but also positions Abu Dhabi as a leader in global innovation.”

ADNOC, the title sponsor, continues its tradition of fostering technological advances, as outlined by H.E. Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, who emphasized the commitment to propel the UAE’s industrial and technological landscape.

Organized by ASPIRE and its CEO, Stephane Timpano, the A2RL is more than a race; it’s a platform to test and enhance autonomous vehicle technologies. The event promises to bring the future of mobility closer with extensive support from international partners and sponsors, including prominent names like AWS and Mubadala. These collaborations underscore the event’s potential to revolutionize autonomous racing and technology.

The event will also offer an exclusive Fan Zone with activities ranging from virtual reality experiences to an AI museum, providing a comprehensive experience for families and tech enthusiasts. Additionally, the day will be packed with STEM challenges involving students, a night of celebration with fireworks, and a concert to wrap up the event.

For those unable to attend, live streams will be available on A2RL’s YouTube and Twitch channels, ensuring no one misses out on the action. Further details can be found on the A2RL website and its social media platforms.

The A2RL event kicks off the Abu Dhabi Mobility Week, which runs from April 24 to May 1, promising a week filled with innovation and forward-thinking mobility solutions.
