The motoring journalists Marie Lizak, from France, and Ayça Cizer, from Turkey have joined Women’s World Car of the Year. Both are renowned professionals in their own country and both have a long association with motoring.
Marie Lizak created her own automotive website, Une Fille au Volant, ten years ago. She currently publishes her automotive-related work in various media and is followed by thousands across her social networks and regularly praised her professionalism and rigor.
“I was passionate about reading specialized magazines and as soon as I graduated in journalism I started working as a test driver for the magazine Auto-Moto,” says Marie Lizak. “The great thing about my job is that I really enjoy it. I hope it will inspire other women to have confidence in themselves”.
Ayça Cizer, on the other hand, has been working in motoring for more than 10 years. Currently she produces automotive-related content using emerging digital channels. Ayça’nın Arabaları –website, Instagram, Youtube and radio– are followed by tens of thousands people as well.
“I realized that automotive content was mostly written in a very technical language. I aimed to set an example for women in this field and to bring together the vast majority of people who are interested in the automotive world by using a much simpler and plainer language”, says Ayça Cizer.
About France
France is one of Europe’s most important automotive markets. Sales in 2021 amounted to 1,659,000 units and were mainly focused on small cars, such as Peugeot 208, Renault Clio or Captur. Like other European Union countries, France has implemented increasingly restrictive emissions legislation, with high taxes on fossil fuels and a ban on pre-1996 cars being allowed to be driven in major cities.
About Turkey
Turkey has an important place in the European car market. Although sedan models are very popular in Turkey, there has been a serious trend towards SUVs in recent years in parallel with the global trend. Potentially, Turkish consumers are inclined to drive larger and more luxurious cars, but due to the heavy tax burden, they prefer small and compact vehicles that they can afford.
About Women’s World Car of the Year
Women’s World Car of the Year is the only car awards group in the world comprised exclusively of women motoring journalists. It was created by New Zealand motoring journalist, Sandy Myhre, in 2009. She is currently Honorary President while Marta García performs as Executive President.
The aim of this unique award is to recognise the best cars of the year and to give a voice to women in the automotive world. The voting criteria is based on the same principles that guide any driver when choosing a car. The selections are not ‘woman’s car’ because such categories do not exist. Aspects such as safety, quality, price, design, ease of driving, benefits and environmental footprint, among others, are taken into account when casting the votes.
However, beyond choosing the best cars of the year, our goal is also to give visibility to women in the automotive world, to contribute to making women voices heard on all continents because mobility for a woman means access to many personal and professional possibilities.
