In 2024, the Volkswagen Community Trust has made a significant impact by allocating R800,000 in funding to various non-profit organisations (NPOs). This substantial investment is aimed at bolstering initiatives across several key areas, including youth development, sports, and social support. The Trust’s commitment underscores Volkswagen’s dedication to fostering positive change and sustainable development in South Africa.

A Commitment to Community
Volkswagen Group Africa’s Corporate and Government Affairs Director, Nonkqubela Maliza, emphasized the Trust’s ongoing commitment to addressing the pressing needs within communities. Maliza highlighted the daily influx of support requests from across the country, reinforcing the importance of their contributions. “The needs in the community are great,” Maliza remarked. “We believe we can make a significant difference in the communities we support.”

Aligned with the Volkswagen Community Trust’s strategic goals, the funded NPOs are integral to advancing economic and social progress. The Trust prioritises areas such as education, youth development, health, community wellbeing, and the environment. Through these investments, the Trust aims to drive positive change and foster sustainable development within the communities they serve.

Beneficiaries and Their Impact
Missionvale Care Centre

The Missionvale Care Centre, dedicated to uplifting the Missionvale community, is one of the primary beneficiaries. This NPO focuses on breaking the cycle of poverty by developing youth. Their initiatives are aimed at providing essential support and opportunities for personal growth, thereby contributing to long-term community improvement.

Lincoln Mali Leadership Foundation
The Lincoln Mali Leadership Foundation is another key recipient. This organisation is committed to nurturing the next generation of leaders through sports development, leadership training, and youth development programs. Their feeding schemes in informal settlements also play a crucial role in supporting disadvantaged youth, enhancing their prospects for the future.

Uviwe Child and Youth Services
In Nelson Mandela Bay’s northern areas, Uviwe Child and Youth Services received funding to bolster their educational and social support programmes for vulnerable youth. This support will enable the organisation to expand its services, providing essential resources and assistance to those in need.

Foundation Academy Day Care Centre
The Foundation Academy Day Care Centre in Khayamnandi, Despatch, caters to children with special needs. The funding will help the centre support disadvantaged special needs children, ensuring they receive the necessary care and educational support to thrive.

Volkswagen Community Trust Channels 800 000 To Empower Local Non Profits

Qhagqiwa Football Association (QHAFA)
Focused on amateur football administration and development, Qhagqiwa Football Association (QHAFA) operates in Kwa-Nobuhle, Despatch, Rocklands, and Kariega. The funding will aid the organisation in executing its development programmes and fostering responsible young individuals who contribute positively to their communities.

Sakha Amathuba
Sakha Amathuba received support for its efforts to empower unemployed youth. By providing skills training and employment opportunities, this organisation aims to alleviate youth unemployment and enhance the employability of young individuals.

Additional Support and Future Prospects
In addition to the major beneficiaries, the Volkswagen Community Trust distributed smaller amounts to various other NPOs, bringing the total number of supported organisations to 40 this year. Maliza noted that registered organisations with a strong track record are eligible to apply for funding, highlighting the Trust’s ongoing commitment to community support.

The Volkswagen Community Trust’s investment in these non-profit organisations exemplifies its dedication to community development and social progress. By supporting a diverse range of initiatives, the Trust is making a tangible difference in the lives of many South Africans. The funding not only addresses immediate needs but also contributes to long-term sustainable development, reflecting Volkswagen’s commitment to positive social impact.
