Toyota South Africa Motors has unveiled a significant update to the legendary Land Cruiser 70 Series, cementing its reputation as a rugged, reliable workhorse while delivering enhanced convenience and value for owners. The standout feature of the 2026 refresh is the introduction of a standard service plan across the entire range, reinforcing Toyota’s focus on worry-free ownership and cost predictability, particularly for customers tackling demanding environments. Most derivatives enjoy coverage of up to nine services or 90 000 km, while the 4.2-litre diesel models benefit from 18 services over the same distance, alongside a 3-year / 100 000 km warranty.
This update also simplifies the model range, reflecting a broader global shift toward smaller, more efficient engines. The 4.5-litre V8 diesel has been discontinued in pick-up models, replaced by expanded availability of the proven 2.8-litre GD turbo-diesel. Customers now have access to a combination of efficiency, refinement, and durability without compromising the strength and capability synonymous with the Land Cruiser badge. Notably, the introduction of a manual-transmission 2.8 GD Double Cab model provides even more choice for those seeking hands-on control and long-term resilience.
The Land Cruiser 70 Series continues to cater to diverse needs with three core body styles: Single Cab for heavy-duty commercial use, Double Cab offering a balance of workhorse capability and passenger versatility, and Station Wagon delivering rugged off-road SUV functionality. Engine options include a 4.0-litre V6 petrol, 4.2-litre naturally aspirated diesel, and the 2.8-litre GD turbo-diesel, available with both manual and automatic transmissions. The 2.8 GD produces 150 kW, with torque up to 500 Nm in automatic derivatives and 450 Nm in manual models, ensuring dependable performance across worksites, long-distance travel, and challenging off-road terrain. Transmission options include a 6-speed automatic paired with the 2.8 GD and a 5-speed manual across multiple derivatives.
Pricing reflects the range’s versatility, with the Land Cruiser 79 Single Cab starting at R840 900 for the 4.0 Petrol 5MT, rising to R1 007 600 for the 2.8 GD-6 Diesel 6AT. Double Cab variants begin at R949 800 and extend to R1 108 400, while Station Wagon models range from R988 800 to R1 199 000 for the top 2.8 GD-6 VX Diesel 6AT derivative.
Owners can also create a personal MyToyota profile, providing convenient access to all vehicle-related information and services. In-car WiFi with a complimentary 25 GB and a suite of Connect services are included for new vehicles, enhancing connectivity and the overall ownership experience.
With the 2026 update, the Land Cruiser 70 Series continues to evolve without compromising the rugged reliability and versatility that have made it a cornerstone of South African roads for decades, now delivering even greater efficiency, convenience, and peace of mind.
