Kenilworth, UK – 10 April 2025 — The Alvis Car Company is set to reveal its latest continuation masterpiece, the 2025 Lancefield, at the Automobile Council in Chiba City, Japan, from 11–13 April. A remarkable reimagining of the one-off model originally created for the 1938 London Motor Show, the Lancefield is both a tribute to pre-war elegance and a triumph of modern British craftsmanship.

Hand-built in the Alvis Works in Kenilworth, this striking dual-purpose tourer has been brought to life with extraordinary attention to detail. Combining time-honoured coachbuilding traditions with contemporary engineering enhancements, it is fully certified for road use, making it as practical as it is beautiful.

A Coachbuilt Masterpiece, Eight Decades in the Making

Named after the famed Lancefield Coachworks Ltd., the original 1938 show car was a sensation in its day. It boasted graceful proportions, signature concave flutings and a disappearing hood—a true Art Deco icon. In 1982, it was even named among the world’s most beautiful cars. Now, 88 years since its debut, the Lancefield has been faithfully reimagined for the modern era.

The revival is nothing short of extraordinary. Drawing on Alvis’ extensive archives—which include over 25,000 original drawings and hundreds of thousands of parts—the continuation car revives more than a silhouette; it reincarnates the spirit of an era. The 2025 Lancefield features an elegant aluminium body, painstakingly hand-formed over an ash frame using traditional techniques. This bodywork alone represents over 3,800 hours of labour, carried out by Warwickshire-based artisans. Finished in a lustrous two-tone cream, the result is a car of rare poise and presence.

Classic Soul, Contemporary Refinement

While its looks are steeped in pre-war glamour, the Lancefield is engineered for the realities of 21st-century motoring. Under the bonnet, a 4.4-litre straight-six engine—built to the same specification as the original—now features electronic fuel injection and engine management, allowing for seamless hot starts, refined throttle response and enhanced torque delivery. With over 150 bhp and a kerb weight of just 1,500 kg, the Lancefield is no slouch. A 0–60 mph time of under 10 seconds underscores its dual character as both a grand tourer and a spirited performer.

Other modern refinements include power steering, servo-assisted brakes, a catalytic converter, and a collapsible steering column, all subtly integrated to preserve the car’s original aesthetic. Fully compliant with road regulations, it represents the perfect balance between heritage and usability.

Built to Be Driven, Destined for Japan

As with all Alvis continuation cars, each Lancefield undergoes rigorous testing on the same Warwickshire roads used by the company since the 1920s. Delivered with a reimagined owner’s handbook styled after the original, it’s a car designed not just for display, but for driving pleasure.

The first 2025 Lancefield is destined for a passionate collector in Japan, where Alvis’ legacy runs deep. Distributed by Meiji Sangyo—the brand’s exclusive agent in Asia and a long-time Alvis partner—this continuation marks the company’s fourth such delivery in the region, with more to follow in 2025, including a drop-head Graber.

A Testament to Timelessness

“The Lancefield continuation car is a clear demonstration of Alvis’ rich legacy and our dedication to quality,” said Alan Stote, owner of The Alvis Car Company. “The 1938 original is a car very close to my heart, and it’s wonderful to continue the legacy of this special machine with a brand-new build.”

With prices starting from £325,000 and a three-year warranty included, the Lancefield stands as a statement of intent—not merely a replica of history, but a living, driving celebration of it.
