Flagship model praised for refinement, engineering and purpose-driven excellence
Milton Keynes, 25 June 2025 – The new Škoda Superb has been officially recognised as one of the finest cars ever tested by Autocar, earning the magazine’s highly exclusive Five-Star Car accolade at the 2025 Autocar Awards. In joining a select list that includes automotive icons like the Ferrari 296 GTB, Porsche Cayman GT4 RS, and BMW M5, the Superb becomes the first Škoda model in history to receive the revered distinction.
Celebrated for its class-leading blend of practicality, dynamic composure and premium refinement, the fourth-generation Superb was described by Autocar’s editorial team as “quietly but decidedly fit for purpose” – a resounding affirmation of its design and engineering credentials.
“Credit goes to Škoda’s design philosophy and its engineering team,” commented Autocar Editor Mark Tisshaw, “which has taken a much more prominent role within the wider Volkswagen Group in recent years.”
This latest generation, launched in 2024, builds on a legacy of intelligent design and exceptional value. From its elegantly redefined exterior to its luxuriously practical cabin, the new Superb reaffirms Škoda’s mastery of the large family car formula – and adds meaningful advances in every direction.

In its detailed road test, Autocar highlighted the Superb’s exceptional driving dynamics and long-distance comfort:
“Škoda has stepped up its game when it comes to traditional values of ride, handling and powertrain. The Superb, particularly with the diesel engine of our road test car, is quietly great to drive. Instead of in-your-face sportiness, it soothes with excellent seats and a nicely settled, quiet ride. And yet the measured and surprisingly tactile steering and sound balance make it unexpectedly enjoyable on a twisty road.”
Available in both hatchback and estate body styles, the Superb range offers a breadth of choice across four distinct trim levels, each featuring Škoda’s carefully curated Design Selection interiors. These not only elevate cabin luxury, but enhance usability with intuitive layouts and intelligent storage.
Engineered with aerodynamic efficiency in mind, the Superb Estate boasts the lowest drag coefficient of any production Škoda estate to date – a detail that contributes to improved fuel economy and reduced emissions across the range. With prices starting from £35,925 OTR for the hatchback and £37,225 OTR for the estate, the Superb offers executive-level comfort and capability at an accessible price point.
With over 1.6 million units sold globally since its original debut, the Superb nameplate has long stood as a hallmark of pragmatic excellence. Now, with Autocar’s Five-Star endorsement, the latest chapter in its story secures its place in the automotive hall of fame.
As Tisshaw concluded, “The Superb earns its name more than ever – and five stars in the Autocar road test.”
