Surrey, UK – 7 May 2025
In a crowning achievement for British automotive excellence, Gordon Murray Group (GMG) has been honoured with a prestigious King’s Award for Enterprise in recognition of the world-leading innovation embodied in its flagship supercar, the Gordon Murray Automotive (GMA) T.50. The accolade places the Surrey-based manufacturer among a distinguished group of British companies recognised for pioneering enterprise and engineering ingenuity.
This royal commendation – one of the UK’s highest business honours – celebrates the revolutionary design philosophy and extraordinary execution behind the T.50. From its class-defining lightness to its masterclass in packaging and aerodynamic purity, the T.50 is more than a supercar; it is a reimagining of what a driver-focused vehicle can and should be.
A Supercar Unlike Any Other
At the heart of the King’s Award is recognition of the T.50’s sector-defining achievements, beginning with its astonishing weight. Tipping the scales at just 997kg, the T.50 is the lightest supercar ever built – a full third lighter than its contemporaries. This is no accident: every bolt, bracket, and panel was scrutinised in pursuit of Gordon Murray Automotive’s vision of “Driving Perfection.”
The car’s compact dimensions house an interior layout as revolutionary as its engineering. The T.50 accommodates three occupants in a central driving position – a trademark of Gordon Murray’s 1990s F1 road car – and provides a remarkable 288 litres of luggage space. This feat of packaging is achieved without compromise to its clean, elegant proportions, setting a new standard for usability in the supercar segment.

Innovation Where It Counts
The GMA T.50 is powered by the world’s lightest naturally aspirated road car engine – a 3.9-litre V12 developed in collaboration with Cosworth. Delivering a spine-tingling 12,100 rpm redline and an unprecedented throttle response of 28,400 revs per second, it is a marvel of modern engineering wrapped in the soul of a classic.
Aerodynamics, too, have been redefined. The T.50 features a patented 400mm rear-mounted fan – an homage to Murray’s own 1978 Brabham BT46B Formula One car – which manipulates airflow beneath the car to maximise ground-effect downforce. Unlike the busy wings and vents of typical supercars, this solution enables a clean, sculptural exterior form, proving that high performance need not come at the expense of design purity.
Royal Honour, Global Recognition
Commenting on the award, Professor Gordon Murray CBE, company founder and Executive Chairman, said:
“As a proud British business, it is such an immense honour for the whole Gordon Murray Group team to receive the King’s Award for Enterprise. The fact that the award specifically recognises innovation is a source of great pride as we aspire to deliver Driving Perfection through our innovative production of highly exclusive supercars.”
CEO Phillip Lee echoed these sentiments, emphasising the company’s commitment to British engineering:
“Being a premium British company is a core part of our ethos and identity. This royal recognition will motivate us to build on each of our principles to deliver unique, innovative supercars of the highest quality to our discerning customers around the world.”
The award comes at a landmark moment for the brand, coinciding with 60 years of automotive design by Professor Murray. Celebrations will culminate at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, where Gordon Murray Automotive will be the Central Feature Marque. A spectacular sculpture outside Goodwood House and a dynamic showcase of Murray-designed road and race cars will pay tribute to a legacy defined by innovation, artistry, and engineering brilliance.
With the King’s Award now part of its story, Gordon Murray Group cements its status not only as a leader in automotive innovation but as a custodian of British design excellence – setting new benchmarks while staying true to the timeless ideals of driving purity.
