Berlin, Germany – 13 July 2025
In a landmark moment for Nissan’s Formula E campaign, British ace Oliver Rowland sealed the 2024/25 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship title in Round 14 of the season at Tempelhof Airport Circuit in Berlin. His measured fourth-place finish, after starting eighth on the grid, was enough to mathematically secure the championship with two races remaining. Meanwhile, new teammate Sérgio Sette Câmara marked his debut for the team with a gritty drive to ninth, claiming his first points in red and black.
After a season defined by consistency, speed, and tactical nous, Rowland’s triumph in Berlin caps off a dominant return to form for the Nissan Formula E Team. With four wins and seven podium finishes so far this season, the 32-year-old has established himself as the benchmark in a fiercely competitive grid – and now, a deserving World Champion.
“This is the fairytale I didn’t see coming,” said Rowland. “I came into today thinking about damage limitation, but in Formula E, you can’t play it safe. I decided to trust my instincts, commit fully, and give it everything – and it worked. I’m so thankful to the whole team at Nissan. They’ve built an environment in which I can thrive, and this title is a testament to the hard work of every single person involved.”
Battling Adversity
The championship weekend in Berlin began with adversity. Saturday’s Round 13 saw both Rowland and Sette Câmara face a chaotic day of disrupted sessions due to bad weather. Free Practice 2 was cancelled, and a shortened Qualifying left drivers scrambling for grip and confidence on a damp track. Rowland’s podium ambitions were thwarted by late-race contact, resulting in retirement and a five-place grid penalty for Sunday’s event.
Sette Câmara, stepping in for Norman Nato who was fulfilling his World Endurance Championship duties, endured a similarly turbulent opening round, recovering from an early incident to finish 15th after starting 19th.
Yet Sunday’s Round 14 brought redemption for both drivers. Despite his grid penalty, Rowland’s energy management and racecraft were impeccable, as he carved his way through the field to fourth – enough to stretch his championship lead to 59 points, securing the title.
For Sette Câmara, it was a weekend of steady progression and flashes of brilliance. A red flag in Qualifying halted his final push lap, placing him 21st on the grid. However, an assertive drive saw the Brazilian gain 12 places and finish ninth – a reward for his resilience and raw pace.
“I’m really proud to score points on debut,” said Sette Câmara. “Saturday was a real challenge – I’d never driven the car in the wet and missed key prep time – but I took a lot from that experience. Sunday was more straightforward and the car felt great. I’m grateful to Nissan for this opportunity and thrilled to be part of the team’s journey.”

A Story Years in the Making
For Nissan, this championship win with Rowland carries added emotional weight. The Sheffield-born driver began his Formula E journey with the Japanese marque in its inaugural season, returning to the fold last year to spearhead its resurgence.
“This is one of the most emotional weekends I’ve experienced in motorsport,” said Tommaso Volpe, Managing Director and Team Principal, Nissan Formula E Team. “To win the title with Oliver – who started his Formula E story with us – is incredibly special. And to see Sérgio show such potential on his first weekend gives us even more momentum. Now we turn our attention to London, where we’ll fight for the Teams’ and Manufacturers’ titles.”
Eyes on London
The 2024/25 Formula E season concludes in dramatic fashion at Rowland’s home race in London on 25–27 July. The double-header finale will be staged at the ExCeL London circuit – a unique semi-indoor venue known for its unforgiving layout and tactical complexity.
Alongside the racing, fans can enjoy the UK public debut of the all-new Nissan LEAF and fully electric Micra in the Fan Village, alongside the latest Qashqai with e-POWER – showcasing Nissan’s commitment to electrified mobility on and off the track.
With Rowland crowned Drivers’ Champion, all eyes now turn to Nissan’s pursuit of a clean sweep. The title fight continues – and the electric finale awaits.
