London, 11 February 2025 – New data from eBay highlights a growing national trend among British motorists, who are increasingly turning to traditional security solutions to protect their vehicles. According to the 2024 data, residents of Romford, East London remain the most security-conscious in the UK, purchasing more vehicle security accessories per capita than any other area in the country.
Following close behind are Llandudno in Conwy and Redhill in Surrey, with Dorchester, Dorset, and Truro, Cornwall rounding out the top five. These findings underscore a continued appetite for reliable, tried-and-tested security measures, even as digital technology becomes more widespread in the automotive world.
A Return to Traditional Solutions
The data reveals a 2.75% year-on-year increase in searches for traditional (non-electronic) accessories, including Faraday pouches and steering wheel locks. Most notably, steering wheel locks have overtaken car alarms as the most searched-for car security item on eBay, followed by wheel clamps, Faraday pouches, pedal locks, and Faraday boxes.
Faraday boxes, designed to block keyless car theft by preventing relay attacks on modern car key fobs, saw the largest individual search increase, rising by 8% compared to 2023.
