Stuttgart/London. The latest project of the Neon Legacy initiative was just revealed in London: A public tennis court refurbished and then designed by the internationally acclaimed street art duo Low Bros. On the occasion of Roger Federer’s retirement from active sport in September 2022, a unique neon yellow Mercedes‑Benz AMG GT 63 S E PERFORMANCE (fuel consumption weighted combined: 7.9 l/100 km; CO2 emissions weighted combined: 180 g/km; electricity consumption weighted combined: 12.0 kWh/100 km) was auctioned off to raise money for a renovation project of public tennis courts in the Royal Borough of Greenwich, London. The street court in Bostall Gardens was selected to serve as the flagship court for this project and to receive not only a complete refurbishment, but also a special design. The striking tennis court, consisting of two fields, promotes public tennis and gives back to the next generation of tennis players. Designed by the Berlin street art duo Low Bros in their retro-futuristic style and painted in cooperation with the local community, the court is setting a visible sign far beyond the city and national borders. The result is an urban work of art that not only visually blends into its surroundings, but also serves its original purpose. The tennis courts that can be played without membership are the future centrepiece of the entire community facility, consisting of a calisthenics training area, a basketball court and a children’s playground.

“It has always been my goal to give something back to the next generation of tennis players. I am very grateful to be a partner with Mercedes-Benz and the Neon Legacy project which not only renovated this tennis facility, but transformed it into a bright and happy place for everyone to enjoy.”
Roger Federer, 20-time Grand Slam winner

The art project was led by the duo Low Bros, who gained global fame for their retro-futuristic style. Their artistic ambition is to explore contradictions in the digital age in relation to personal identity. The central components of the street court in London are the floral motifs inspired by the name of the facility, Bostall Gardens, as well as 3D elements of the tennis court symbolising open windows on a computer desktop.

“For us, it was a special motivation to design this piece of urban living space in such a way that it continues to serve its original purpose, strengthens the identity of the local community and, moreover, helps the sport of tennis to become more popular and accessible.”
Christoph and Florin Schmidt, known as street art duo Low Bros

“What a fantastic idea: a sports court as a canvas and an identity-creating meeting place for the local community. If, together with Roger and our initiative Neon Legacy, we have managed to give something back to society and promote tennis at the same time, then the effort and passion we have put into this heartfelt project has been very worthwhile.”
Bettina Fetzer, Vice President Communications & Marketing, Mercedes-Benz AG

The documentary of this Neon Legacy project will be released on June 29, 2023.
