GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – 20 February 2025 – Polestar continues to redefine vehicle ownership with its intensive over-the-air (OTA) update program, reinforcing its commitment to ongoing software enhancements. Since the first customer delivery of the Polestar 3 in June 2024, the Swedish electric performance brand has released nine OTA updates for its flagship SUV. Across the broader Polestar lineup, more than 30 OTA software updates have been rolled out since the launch of the Polestar 2 in 2020.

The latest OTA update for the Polestar 3 brings an array of new features and software refinements, including walk-away locking and digital key functionality for selected devices.

Enhanced Digital Key Functionality

Polestar’s new digital key feature allows smartphone users to unlock, lock, and start their vehicle without needing to physically handle their device. The functionality is also cross-platform compatible, ensuring seamless convenience across various mobile ecosystems.

Michael Lohscheller, CEO of Polestar, stated: “With our over-the-air updates, we can continue to make our cars better over time. Our customers asked for digital key functionality, and we delivered. We will keep adding value for our customers throughout the lifetime of their cars.”

Expanding the Capabilities of Software-Defined Vehicles

Polestar 3 is the first software-defined vehicle from Europe, and its advanced centralized computing architecture allows for deeper integration of OTA updates. Beyond adding new applications and improving software stability, these updates also refine driving dynamics and enhance active safety systems.

Looking ahead to the 2026 model year, Polestar 3 will receive a significant hardware upgrade, transitioning from the current NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Xavier processor to the more powerful NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor. In a move that underscores Polestar’s commitment to long-term customer satisfaction, existing Polestar 3 owners will receive this hardware upgrade free of charge.

Michael Lohscheller continued: “Polestar 3, the first software-defined vehicle from Europe, is about to get even more brainpower. The ability to upgrade the hardware of our cars when new technologies become available perfectly demonstrates our commitment to delivering the best ownership experience. With the Orin processor upgrade, the already outstanding Polestar 3 gets even better.”

This complimentary hardware enhancement will be performed at authorized Polestar service points, with customers notified once the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processor is available for installation.

More Apps Coming to Polestar via Google’s Car Ready Mobile Apps Program

Polestar will be among the first automakers—alongside Volvo—to integrate Google’s Car Ready Mobile Apps program. This initiative simplifies the distribution of large-screen-optimized mobile apps to car infotainment systems, further enhancing the in-car experience.

As part of this expansion, Polestar drivers will soon have access to a variety of new apps while parked, including Farm Heroes Saga and F1 TV. These apps are now available in the Google Play Store for Polestar 2, with support for Polestar 3 and Polestar 4 set to follow later in the year.

With these continuous improvements, Polestar is solidifying its position as a leader in software-driven automotive innovation, ensuring that its vehicles evolve and improve long after they leave the factory floor.
