Valencia, Spain – 21 September 2025
Maserati’s dominance in the GT2 European Series powered by Pirelli has once again been confirmed as Philippe Prette clinched the 2025 Am Class championship, successfully defending the title he first won in 2024. The Monegasque driver, piloting the number 1 Maserati GT2 for LP Racing, celebrated the achievement in spectacular fashion at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo in Valencia, with a commanding double overall victory during the fifth round of the season.
Prette’s title was effectively sealed on Saturday, when he crossed the finish line first in Race 1, leaving his competitors with no mathematical chance of catching him in the Am Class. Demonstrating exceptional pace and strategic skill, he also managed to outperform Pro-Am competitors, securing additional championship points. Dinamic Motorsport’s Maserati GT2 number 7, driven by Mauro Calamia and Roberto Pampanini, finished behind Prette, claiming the Pro-Am Class victory and reinforcing Maserati’s strength across multiple categories.
Race 1: Masterclass in Control
From the moment the lights went out on Saturday, Prette capitalized on his overall pole position, taking the lead immediately and fending off relentless pressure from his rivals. His advantage swelled to as much as 15 seconds by the time he reached the pit stop window. Despite a penalty carried over from his double victory at Misano, Prette demonstrated both tactical intelligence and unyielding speed, regaining the lead and crossing the finish line first.
The number 7 Maserati, with Calamia and Pampanini, executed a steady and precise race. Starting from the second row, they gained a position on the opening lap, maintained their rhythm through the driver change, and reclaimed second place after a decisive overtake on the central straight. Their performance not only secured the Pro-Am class win but also set up an intriguing championship battle for Sunday’s race.

Race 2: Triumph Amidst Adversity
Sunday’s race delivered drama and unpredictability. Calamia, starting from pole in the number 7 Maserati GT2, initially built a significant lead despite the disruptions caused by a Safety Car. However, light rain created treacherous conditions during the driver change, resulting in Calamia sliding off track and into the gravel, bringing his race – and title hopes – to an untimely end.
Prette, meanwhile, started from fifth overall but first in class, navigating the challenging conditions with composure. After a second Safety Car period, he mounted a decisive comeback, overtaking into the lead and maintaining a commanding pace to cross the chequered flag more than seven seconds ahead of his closest rival. With this performance, Prette not only secured his race victory but also celebrated his championship in emphatic style.
Looking Ahead: Barcelona and Beyond
The final round of the 2025 season is set to take place at the Barcelona-Catalunya circuit from 10 to 12 October, offering a final showcase of Maserati GT2’s competitive prowess. Maserati remains firmly committed to nurturing young driving talent, particularly through its involvement in the SRO GT Academy, announced at Spa-Francorchamps in June.
Starting in 2026, the GT2 European Series will expand to include a Silver class, alongside an SRO GT Academy award. Silver drivers will have the opportunity to compete in a full season, either in Silver or Pro-Am class, in Maserati GT2 cars—or vehicles from other participating brands—leading into the GT World Challenge Europe – Endurance Cup from 2027.
Maria Conti, Head of Maserati Corse, reflected on the Valencia weekend with pride:
“It’s been an extraordinary weekend in Valencia! Maserati dominated the GT2 European Series by Pirelli, winning the championship with performance that will go down in history. Our cars have once again demonstrated exceptional strength and reliability, confirming themselves as leaders in technology and performance. Seeing these successes materialise on track is a source of immense pride for all of us. We look forward to celebrating at the final round in Barcelona and to an exciting 2026 with the SRO GT Academy project, full of confidence and ambition.”
With back-to-back titles secured, Philippe Prette and Maserati have underlined their mastery in GT2 competition, setting a benchmark for rivals and fans alike as the series heads toward its dramatic conclusion in Barcelona.
