Tanker operator Oxalis has thrown its considerable weight behind Mercedes-Benz Trucks and its Dealer of the Year, Midlands Truck & Van, by placing a significant order for 10 Actros 2446 tractor units. The move signals a strong vote of confidence not just in the vehicles themselves, but in the dealership’s commitment to aftersales support, technical expertise, and industry-specific readiness.
Formed in 2024 following a strategic spin-off from the Hoyer Group, Oxalis has already established itself as a leader in the European transport of fuel, gas, and bitumen. Operating more than 600 trucks across the UK, the company’s latest investment in Mercedes-Benz vehicles marks a crucial milestone as it sharpens its focus on efficiency, safety, and reliability across its expanding fleet.
“This shows our faith not only in the vehicles, but in the investment in people, training and facilities made by Midlands Truck & Van at its Birmingham site,” said Paul Harrison, Fleet Engineer at Oxalis.
High-Spec Hardware for Heavy-Duty Haulage
The new additions to the Oxalis fleet are Actros 2446 models, each powered by a 10.7-litre inline-six engine producing 340 kW (460 hp). Featuring small-wheeled 17.5-inch mid-lift axles, the trucks benefit from a 300kg weight saving over standard 22.5-inch setups. This lighter configuration not only enhances payload capacity but also provides additional space on the chassis for tanker-specific equipment.
Further optimisation comes from the use of 2.3m-wide ClassicSpace cabs—a narrower option that complements the trucks’ operating environment—and alloy wheels, which contribute to overall efficiency gains.
“These trucks are built for purpose,” said Harrison. “They’re cost-efficient, packed with advanced safety and driver assistance systems, and our drivers have been impressed with the level of comfort in the cabs.”
Confidence Born from Capability
However, for Oxalis, the vehicles themselves are only part of the equation. The real differentiator lies in the aftercare and service support—particularly crucial in the hazardous goods sector, where downtime and compliance risks are magnified.
“Our trucks operate from fuel terminals without on-site workshops, so we rely heavily on our dealer network,” Harrison explained.
“Midlands Truck & Van have invested a huge amount in creating a workshop that meets ADR standards, and their commitment has been evident from day one.”
He credits Managing Director Steve Hunt, Service Manager Dean Bennett, and Fleet Truck Sales Manager Richard Mason for going above and beyond to tailor a package that met Oxalis’ stringent requirements.
“From the facility tour to the customised sales support, they gave us all the reassurance we needed that we could count on them. That made the decision to invest in Mercedes-Benz trucks an easy one.”
Building a Future-Proof Fleet
The first of the new Actros units will be deployed to deliver petrol and diesel to forecourts across the UK, while a second batch—configured with sleeper cabs—is on its way to support a major LPG delivery contract.
“These trucks still have to prove themselves in our fleet,” Harrison added, “but if the vehicles and back-up perform to the level we expect, this could be the beginning of a long-term partnership.”
A Growing Partnership
For Daimler Truck UK, the order reflects a broader recognition of its growing capability within the ADR transport sector.
“It’s fantastic that Oxalis recognises the value our trucks and our dealer network offer,” said Nicola Dainter-Kemsley, Key Account Manager at Daimler Truck UK.
“We’re proud to support their operations and look forward to strengthening this partnership.”
With its blend of cutting-edge vehicles and best-in-class support, the Oxalis-Mercedes-Benz Trucks collaboration exemplifies the importance of total transport solutions in a high-stakes industry—and sets the tone for a future driven by trust, performance, and mutual growth.
