Namib Mills, Namibia’s largest grain processing company, has built its business on strong foundations: quality products, national reach, and a trusted fleet of Hino trucks that deliver efficiency and durability in equal measure. With a logistics operation that stretches across Namibia’s vast and rugged terrain, reliable transportation is not a luxury—it’s a necessity. And that’s precisely where Hino comes in.

At the heart of Namib Mills’ logistics operations is a robust fleet of 119 Hino trucks, encompassing a strategic mix of the 200, 300, and 500 Series, each tailored to specific distribution needs. More recently, the company added the powerful Hino 700 2841 truck tractor to its roster—a move that’s already paying off.

The Heavy Lifter That Delivers

Drawing a three-axle GRW tautliner trailer, the Hino 700 2841 is tasked with transporting 28-30 ton payloads along Namibia’s main transport routes. These heavy-duty assignments are carried out with remarkable efficiency. According to Willem le Roux, Distribution and Logistics Manager at Namib Mills, the 700 Series achieves an average fuel consumption of 2.89 km/l (34.6 l/100 km). Just as notable is its running cost of N$20.07 per kilometre, a figure Le Roux describes as “most satisfactory” within the company’s demanding operational framework.

Built for Namibia, Backed by Service

Namib Mills’ longstanding relationship with the Hino brand is rooted in more than just cost-efficiency. “We choose Hino trucks because they are competitively priced while offering outstanding reliability and durability,” says Le Roux. “The added benefit is the excellent after-sales service we receive from Hino dealerships, particularly Hino Pupkewitz, which handles all scheduled maintenance to manufacturer-recommended intervals.”

This proactive approach to maintenance ensures the fleet runs like clockwork—crucial for a business that must meet tight delivery schedules across remote and urban locations alike. “This consistency contributes significantly to our operational success and long-term reliability,” adds Le Roux.

A Partnership That Grows With the Business

Founded in 1982 as a modest milling operation, Namib Mills has since grown into a leading food producer offering an expansive product range, including maize meal, flour, mahangu, sugar, rice, and pasta. As the company has grown, so too has its reliance on logistics partners that can scale with its needs. Hino has proven to be just that.

When asked whether he would consider expanding the Hino fleet further, Le Roux’s response was unequivocal: “Absolutely!”

For Namib Mills, Hino is more than a truck manufacturer—it’s a trusted ally in delivering food security and economic growth across Namibia. From lightweight deliveries to heavy-duty hauls, Hino continues to prove its value where it matters most: on the road.
