For anyone whose New Year’s resolution involves finally putting pen to paper and creating a motoring masterpiece, the Michael Sedgwick Memorial Trust has a treat in store. On the afternoon of Saturday 21 March, the Trust will host a unique event, ‘Meet our Authors’, at the Hagerty Clubhouse at Bicester Motion in Oxfordshire. It promises to be an inspiring and informal gathering for motoring enthusiasts, aspiring writers, and anyone curious about the stories behind the books.
From 3pm to 6pm, attendees will have the rare opportunity to hear firsthand from writers and publishers whose work has been supported by the Trust. The event will delve into the creative process, the trials of producing a book, and the satisfaction of seeing a finished title on the shelves. Discussion is intended to be relaxed and interactive, allowing first-time authors to pick up tips from seasoned professionals and enthusiasts of motoring history to gain new insights.
The line-up is impressive. Michael Edwards, author and publisher of a series on De Dion, and a trustee of the MSMT, will share his experiences. David Knowles, whose recent publication explores the life of MG legend Syd Enever, will be in attendance, alongside Paul Skilleter, renowned Jaguar expert and MSMT Trustee. Motorsport aficionados will be keen to hear from Ian Wagstaff, celebrated author of titles including Formula 1’s Unsung Pioneers. The session will be moderated by Giles Chapman, author of over 60 motoring books, and MSMT vice-chairman Peter Card, who will ensure every voice is heard.
The event will take place in the welcoming surroundings of the Hagerty Clubhouse, a hub for classic car enthusiasts not far from the M40. Guests can enjoy tea, coffee, and biscuits as they listen, discuss, and network, while taking in some of the classic vehicles on display.
Numbers are limited, making early booking essential. Attendance is £12 per person, covering administration and refreshments. Those interested in securing a place can find further details and the booking form at: www.michaelsedgwicktrust.co.uk.
