The Mazda6e is set to arrive in the UK this summer, marking a significant step forward in Mazda’s electrification journey and reimagining the much-loved Mazda6 for a new era of battery electric mobility. With pricing starting from £38,995 for the Takumi and £39,995 for the Takumi Plus, the model enters the market with a clear focus on accessible premium EV ownership, offering strong value within the D-segment electric saloon space.
At the core of the Mazda6e is a 78kWh LFP battery, delivering a combined WLTP range of up to 348 miles. This single UK-specification battery simplifies the lineup while aiming to strike an effective balance between range, performance and efficiency. Fast charging capability further enhances its usability, with 10 to 80 per cent replenishment achieved in just 24 minutes when connected to a 195kW DC charger, making long-distance travel more convenient and predictable.
Performance remains a key pillar of the Mazda6e’s identity. The rear-wheel drive setup produces 258ps and 290Nm of torque, enabling a 0 to 62mph time of 7.9 seconds. While fully electric, the model continues Mazda’s long-standing emphasis on driver engagement, with chassis tuning, steering and braking calibration specifically refined by Mazda Research Europe in Frankfurt to suit UK driving conditions.
To support the transition to electric ownership, Mazda is introducing a compelling home charging incentive. Customers purchasing through retail dealers or Mazda Contract Hire will qualify for a Pod Home Charger, available in either tethered or untethered form for £499, provided orders are placed before 30 June. The initiative is designed to simplify home installation and reduce barriers for customers new to EV ownership. In addition, all retail and fleet buyers will receive a £500 public charging credit via the Mazda Public Charging App, usable across participating charging networks, further expanding charging flexibility beyond the home.
Design plays a central role in defining the Mazda6e’s identity. Built around Mazda’s “Kodo Soul of Motion” philosophy and evolved under the concept of “Electrifying Design Crafted to Perfection”, the model features a sleek, coupe-inspired silhouette combined with hatchback practicality. Frameless doors, a flowing body profile and a distinctive illuminated front wing signature create a modern and instantly recognisable presence. The lighting design also communicates charging status through dynamic illumination, adding both function and visual character.
The exterior continues with carefully sculpted surfaces and aerodynamic detailing, including 19-inch wheels designed to enhance efficiency while reinforcing its sporty stance. At the rear, a full-width light bar and updated Mazda lettering replace traditional badging, signalling a new design direction for the brand. A retractable rear spoiler adds stability at speed while contributing to the car’s aerodynamic performance.
Inside, the Mazda6e introduces a calm, spacious and highly considered cabin inspired by Japanese design principles, particularly the concept of “Ma”, which emphasises the beauty of space and simplicity. A panoramic roof enhances natural light, while a floating centre console and minimalist dashboard design create an airy, uncluttered environment. Premium materials define both trims, with Takumi models offering Maztex artificial leather in black or stone, and Takumi Plus elevating the experience with tan Nappa leather and suede cloth detailing.
Technology is seamlessly integrated into the cabin experience. A 14.6-inch central touchscreen works alongside a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster and an augmented reality head-up display, ensuring key driving information is presented clearly and intuitively. Despite its sleek exterior proportions, practicality remains strong, with a 336-litre boot, a 72-litre front storage compartment and generous interior space suitable for both private and business users.
Mazda Motors UK Managing Director Jeremy Thomson has positioned the Mazda6e as a key milestone for the brand, highlighting its importance in demonstrating how Mazda can combine design excellence, advanced technology and engaging driving dynamics within the electric vehicle segment. He also emphasised that the model’s UK-specific tuning ensures it retains the brand’s signature driving feel while adapting to the expectations of electric mobility.
Arriving at a time of evolving consumer demand and regulatory pressure in the UK automotive landscape, the Mazda6e reflects Mazda’s multi-solution strategy, which spans mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and full battery electric vehicles. Its competitive pricing, strong equipment levels and premium positioning make it a compelling entry in the growing electric saloon market.
With orders now open and first deliveries expected this summer, the Mazda6e not only revives a familiar nameplate but also establishes a new direction for Mazda’s electric future. Later this year, the brand will continue expanding its EV line-up with the arrival of the all-new Mazda CX-6e SUV, further strengthening its presence in the electrified D-segment and beyond.
