The all-new Mazda CX-5, set to arrive in the UK this spring, introduces Navy Blue to its colour line-up, joining seven other exterior options. Developed through Mazda’s global co-creation process, Navy Blue embodies a refined, versatile shade designed to resonate emotionally with modern lifestyles.
This new colour accentuates the CX-5’s evolved Kodo – Soul of Motion design, highlighting the SUV’s sculpted surfaces and confident proportions. Navy Blue reinforces the vehicle’s refined character, perfectly complementing its Japanese craftsmanship while offering a subtle yet striking presence on the road.
While Mazda is often celebrated for its signature red, blue has been a defining hue in the brand’s history—from the R360 Coupe to the Familia and MX-5. With more than 150 blue shades spanning Mazda’s heritage, Navy Blue builds on this legacy as a colour that feels both timeless and globally appealing.
Design Insight Behind Navy Blue
Jo Stenuit, Mazda’s European Design Director, explains: “The all-new CX-5 evolves an instantly recognisable design with greater confidence and versatility. Navy Blue naturally enhances its Kodo surfaces—it’s a colour that strengthens the design’s presence while feeling familiar, refined, and easy to live with.”
The colour was developed through a collaborative co-creation process involving Mazda’s design, development, and production engineering teams across regions. Advanced digital and model-based development methods allowed the designers’ vision to translate precisely into a production-ready finish. Alena Gersonde, Colour and Material Senior Designer at Mazda’s European R&D Centre, adds: “We aimed to create a new standard blue that outperforms our popular Deep Crystal Blue. By balancing multiple types of mica, we achieved a high-resolution appearance—vivid in sunlight, yet deep and elegant under overcast skies or at night.”

The CX-5 retains its iconic silhouette while further advancing Mazda’s Kodo design philosophy. Developed under the concept of “Wearable Gear,” the SUV is built to integrate seamlessly into diverse lifestyles. Like a well-designed wardrobe, it balances style, comfort, and practicality—whether navigating urban streets or venturing beyond the city limits.
The vehicle’s evolved design emphasises visual stability with muscular wheel arches, a raised front, and a wider track. Linear LED lighting graphics and bold MAZDA lettering at the rear create a modern, impactful look, while the interior reflects the Japanese principle of Ma, offering a clean, spacious, and functional cabin ideal for families and long journeys alike.
