Modena, 3 April 2024 – The prestigious Maserati GT2 is poised to make a grand entrance at the first round of the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli, taking place at the renowned Paul Ricard circuit on 5 and 6 April. The series, celebrated for showcasing the prowess of GT2 class cars, will witness Maserati’s eagerly anticipated return to the track with three vehicles set to compete; two managed by LP Racing and one by TFT Racing. This marks the Trident’s first appearance since the 2023 season finale, also held in France.

In a remarkable debut last October, the Maserati GT2, piloted by Leonardo Gorini and Luca Pirri of LP Racing, made headlines by clinching pole position and a podium finish in their first series race. This marked a significant milestone for the Italian team, heralding Maserati’s return to GT racing after a hiatus, with a performance that set the competition ablaze from the outset.

Engineered specifically for GT2 racing and not street-legal, the Maserati GT2 is powered by the Nettuno V6 90° twin-turbo engine, a powerhouse also at the core of the MC20 but tuned for heightened track performance. This vehicle not only represents Maserati’s return to competitive racing but also embodies the brand’s rich heritage in motorsport, designed for racing enthusiasts and gentleman drivers seeking to push their limits in a car known for its exceptional handling, drivability, and adrenaline-pumping performance.

With a focus on cutting-edge design and aerodynamics, the Maserati GT2 is a testament to advanced technology and mechanical precision, developed with the aid of the world’s most advanced dynamic simulator and a dedicated team of engineers. It aims to continue the legacy of the iconic Maserati MC12 by creating memorable moments in motorsport history and meeting the high standards of today’s GT competitions.

Giovanni Sgro, Head of Maserati Corse, expressed excitement over seeing three Maserati cars compete in a GT championship, likening it to a homecoming. He highlighted Maserati’s commitment to returning to racing, with plans to welcome other teams who have purchased the GT2, reflecting the brand’s pride in their racing strategy and dedication to offering a car that embodies advanced technology and superior performance. The GT2 European Series represents an ideal platform for showcasing the Maserati GT2’s capabilities, aligning with the brand’s goal to deliver exceptional products ready to dominate the race tracks.

Additionally, Maserati Corse announced a strategic collaboration with Shell for the GT2 Program, further enhancing the partnership with the supply of Shell Helix Ultra Maserati 5W-40 engine oil for both the MC20 race car and its road-going counterpart.

The Maserati GT2’s journey in the 2024 Fanatec GT2 European Series Powered by Pirelli will span the entire season, with races scheduled across Europe, including Misano, the Crowdstrike 24 Hours of Spa, Hockenheim, Monza, and the season finale in Barcelona. This ambitious lineup underscores Maserati’s commitment to reclaiming its position in the world of GT championships and the anticipation surrounding its performance in the upcoming races.
