Bentley is propelling its automotive legacy into a new era with the introduction of its Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain. Announced on May 8, 2024, in Crewe, this cutting-edge system pairs a formidable new combustion engine with sophisticated hybrid technology, setting a new standard for luxury and performance. The Ultra Performance Hybrid marks a significant milestone as it prepares to replace the iconic W12 engine, delivering over 750 PS and offering a remarkable electric range of 50 miles (80 km).
The introduction of the Ultra Performance Hybrid, which Bentley has dubbed a blend of historical engineering prowess and modern innovation, carries forward a tradition of enhancing performance through technological advancements. This approach began with supercharging in the 1920s and evolved into turbocharging from the 1980s onward. Today, Bentley enhances its legacy with ‘electrocharging’, an advanced hybrid system that promises to be the most sophisticated and powerful in Bentley’s 105-year history.

As the W12 engine retires after two decades and 105,000 units, the new V8 hybrid will become Bentley’s premier powertrain. It is poised to redefine the electrified luxury performance vehicle market, offering superior power, extensive torque across a broader range, and a CO2 output under 50 g/km as per the WLTP drive cycle.
Adding to the allure, Bentley has also released an engine sound clip that showcases the hybrid system’s versatility. From the deep tones of a cross-plane bass to a spirited free-revving growl, the sound clip highlights the dynamic range of the new engine, contrasting sharply with the silent operation in electric mode.
In the weeks to come, Bentley will reveal more details about this electrified powertrain that continues its Beyond 100 journey, aiming to offer every car in its range with a hybrid option. Meanwhile, enthusiasts can still acquire the last few units of Bentley’s W12 and non-hybrid V8 engines available through its global network of retailers.
