Milton Keynes, UK, 20 August 2025 – Three quarters (75%) of UK van drivers now believe an all-electric van would meet their business needs, up from 67% in 2023, according to new research from Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. The findings come as the UK recorded a 50.7% year-on-year rise in electric light commercial vehicle (LCV) registrations during the year to June 2025.
The survey of 1,000 UK van drivers highlights cost effectiveness as the leading motivator, with 62% of respondents convinced that electric vans are now cheaper to run than their petrol or diesel equivalents. Sustainability (52%) and the growing variety of EV options (37%) were also identified as key reasons for the growing appetite for electrification.
To further support the transition, Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has partnered with OVO Energy to provide its Charge Anytime offer. This smart-charging solution enables drivers to pay just 7p per kWh at any time of day or night, potentially saving up to £542 annually. Customers also benefit from up to 2,000 free miles with the purchase of their new electric vehicle, plus an additional 1,000 free miles per year for three years.

Despite charging time (49%) and driving range (43%) remaining top concerns, the majority (69%) of businesses yet to adopt EVs expect to purchase an electric van in 2025. The trend is being driven by a desire to lower running costs while adopting more sustainable practices.
Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles continues to expand its all-electric line-up to meet this growing demand. The new eTransporter combines practicality with performance, offering up to 218PS and a range of up to 200 miles with its 83kWh battery. The ID. Buzz Cargo also provides a compelling choice, delivering up to 277 miles of range with the 79kWh battery, alongside a new entry-level 59kWh variant with up to 201 miles of range.
Craig Cavanagh, National Fleet Manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles, said:
“It’s encouraging to see van drivers embracing the transition to electric, with the majority now recognising how EVs can support their day-to-day operations. We continue to develop and enhance our range of all-electric vehicles, while strengthening partnerships that make electrification more accessible and cost-effective for businesses.”
