Modern design, seamless integration, and global appeal power the success story behind the GL-2 lighting upgrade for the classic Land Rover Defender.
Tuesday, May 20, 2025 | England, UK – Glohh, the premium automotive lighting innovator, has struck gold with its GL-2 Defender lighting upgrade – a design-forward solution that has not only modernised a 76-year-old British icon but captured the imagination of owners in 105 countries. Since its 2024 debut, the GL-2 and its front-end counterpart have defied supply constraints and macroeconomic headwinds to become a global sensation, proving that the spirit of customisation burns brightly within the Defender community.
From farmers in South Africa to explorers in Mexico, CEOs in Europe to collectors in the US, Defender owners across the spectrum are embracing the GL-2 for what it is: a lighting system that fuses heritage with high design. Engineered as a plug-and-play upgrade that requires no additional wiring or modification, the GL-2 has become the lighting upgrade of choice for a wide swath of the Defender population – a remarkable 79% of whom cite its seamless integration as the primary purchasing driver. Even more striking, 85% of surveyed customers hailed the GL-2’s innovative styling as a step change from traditional lighting options.
With a presence in every major region – including the UK, Australia, South Africa, the USA, and Mexico – Glohh has seen demand outpace supply not once, but twice, since launch. In the UK alone, where the Defender legacy runs deep, monthly sales have surged by 10% since the introduction of the GL-2 front lighting in October 2024. Europe, Australasia and Africa are experiencing a steady 5% rise in uptake, while the Americas continue to build momentum with a 7% month-on-month increase in demand.

“The Defender is more than a vehicle – it’s a platform for self-expression,” says Tahir Riaz, Glohh’s Chief Commercial Officer for the MENA region. “We recognised a gap in the market for lighting that complemented the Defender’s identity without compromising on performance or design. The GL-2 bridges that gap with elegance, and the response from the community has been extraordinary.”
Indeed, the GL-2 has earned a place not just on custom builds, but on coachbuilt icons – including a Defender driven by Top Gear alumnus Richard Hammond on his DriveTribe channel. These appearances have amplified its appeal within enthusiast circles and at community-led automotive gatherings, where organic buzz continues to fuel international interest.
The GL-2 range, which includes the original rear light upgrade and GL-2x (a tinted-lens version), is priced at £489.00 and £539.00 respectively. The front lighting options – clear (£289.00) and tinted (£269.00) – complete the modernisation package, and all units are ECE and DOT compliant, ensuring global road legality.
Brandon Smalley, Glohh’s Marketing Executive, adds: “The GL-2 isn’t just a product – it’s a movement. It has become part of the cultural language of modern Defender builds. Just as Land Rover introduced the Classic Defender V8 Soft Top to honour the original, GL-2 customers are reimagining their vehicles in ways that preserve history while embracing the future.”
Looking ahead, Glohh is set to capitalise on this momentum with the development of a dedicated NAS specification, created in direct response to demand from North American Defender owners and those with rare models like the SVX, X-Tech, and Autobiography editions. Additional bespoke lighting solutions are also in the pipeline, reflecting Glohh’s commitment to staying at the forefront of the Defender aftermarket.
As the Defender legacy continues to evolve, so too does the community shaping its future – and with the GL-2 lighting upgrade, Glohh has proven that sometimes, the brightest path forward lies in illuminating the past with modern light.
