Kia has been named ‘Best Manufacturer’ at the TopGear.com EV Awards 2026, cementing its position as one of the driving forces behind the rapid evolution of electric mobility.
Now in its seventh year, the awards celebrate the most compelling electric vehicles on sale in the UK, along with the brands shaping the transition to an electrified future. For Kia, the recognition underscores a product strategy that has matured at pace, blending accessibility with technological ambition across a remarkably broad line-up.
From compact urban commuters to full-size performance SUVs, Kia’s electric portfolio has expanded into nearly every meaningful segment. Models such as the Kia EV3, Kia EV6 and Kia EV9 illustrate the brand’s ability to cater to vastly different customer needs without losing coherence in design, usability and performance.
That consistency has not gone unnoticed. Ollie Kew, Deputy Editor of TopGear.com, pointed to a defining character that runs throughout Kia’s electric range, highlighting its dependable range figures, refined driving manners and everyday usability. Whether at the entry point or the upper end of the market, Kia’s EVs deliver a sense of completeness that resonates with both critics and consumers.
The accolade follows further recognition from BBC TopGear.com, where the Kia PV5 Passenger was recently named ‘Family Car of the Year’. Together, these honours reflect a brand that is not only building electric vehicles at scale, but doing so with a clear understanding of real-world requirements.
According to Paul Philpott, President and CEO of Kia UK, the award caps off a period of intense activity. The brand introduced eight new products in 2025 alone, including the Kia EV4, Kia EV5 and the versatile PV5, each contributing to a line-up designed to be both desirable and attainable.
Kia’s journey in the EV space stretches back to 2014 with the launch of the Kia Soul EV. From a modest starting point of just 149 registrations in its first full year in the UK, the brand has scaled dramatically, surpassing 94,500 fully electric vehicle registrations by the end of 2025. This growth reflects not only rising demand, but also Kia’s ability to anticipate and respond to shifting market expectations.
Looking ahead, the next chapter will be shaped by the introduction of the Kia EV2, a compact and affordable model developed specifically for the European market. As part of Kia’s broader ‘Plan S’ strategy, first set in motion with the EV6 in 2021, the EV2 is expected to bring premium features and design into a more accessible segment, broadening the appeal of electric mobility even further.
Momentum is unlikely to slow. The arrival of high-performance GT variants of the EV3, EV4 and EV5 later in 2026 signals Kia’s intent to inject even greater dynamism into its electric offering, ensuring that efficiency and excitement continue to evolve side by side.
In a market that is becoming increasingly crowded and competitive, Kia’s recognition as TopGear.com’s Best Manufacturer feels less like a milestone and more like a marker of intent. The brand is not simply participating in the electric era, it is helping define it.
