Kia UK has reached a significant milestone in its electrification journey, with the Kia EV4 becoming the first model in its line-up to qualify for the maximum Band 1 UK Government Electric Car Grant, delivering a £3,750 reduction in on-the-road pricing for eligible variants.
The updated grant position strengthens the EV4’s appeal at a pivotal moment in the UK’s transition to electric mobility. The ‘Air’ Standard Range and Long Range versions, along with the newly introduced ‘Motion’ grade, now benefit from the full £3,750 ECG support, increasing the level of assistance previously available and making the model more accessible to both retail and fleet customers.
With the grant applied, pricing for the EV4 range now begins at £30,995 on-the-road for the entry ‘Air’ Standard Range model, equipped with a 58.3kWh battery. The inclusion of the higher grant does not extend to the GT-Line or GT-Line S variants, which continue to sit outside the Band 1 eligibility criteria while still benefiting from Kia UK’s wider financial offers, including competitive APR finance packages and deposit contributions across selected trims.
Alongside the established Air variants, the EV4 ‘Motion’ emerges as a key addition to the range, positioned between the GT-Line and GT-Line S. It brings a stronger emphasis on comfort, technology and driver assistance features, including an 8-speaker Harman Kardon premium audio system, heated outer rear seats, a surround view monitor, blind-spot view monitoring and an electric driver’s seat with lumbar support. The Motion grade retains the EV4’s 201bhp front-mounted electric motor and 81.4kWh battery, ensuring performance and range consistency across the upper tiers of the line-up.
Visually, the Motion aligns closely with the Air variant, sharing 17-inch alloy wheels, body-coloured mirror caps, side sills, black wheel arch cladding and silver window trim accents, reinforcing a cohesive design language across the EV4 family. It is offered exclusively as a five-door hatchback and is manufactured at Kia’s Žilina production facility in Slovakia, reflecting the brand’s established European manufacturing footprint.
The EV4’s inclusion in the top tier of the Electric Car Grant now places it alongside a broader Kia UK electric portfolio that spans four eligible models: EV2, EV3, EV4 and PV5 Passenger. This expanded coverage ensures that a wider spectrum of customers, from private buyers to fleet operators, can access meaningful cost reductions when transitioning to electric vehicles. Each model is available to order through Kia dealerships across the UK, with PV5 Passenger also distributed via dedicated PBV Centres.
The Electric Car Grant itself is structured around stringent sustainability criteria, requiring participating manufacturers to meet emissions thresholds, lifecycle standards and verified climate commitments. Central to eligibility is certification under the Science Based Targets initiative, ensuring alignment with global decarbonisation pathways and long-term net-zero objectives.
Kia UK’s broader sustainability strategy underpins this achievement, with plans to introduce 15 fully electric models and 10 hybrid models by 2030. The company is also targeting 100% renewable energy across all manufacturing sites by 2040, alongside lifecycle emissions reductions and a full carbon neutrality ambition by 2045. These commitments position the EV4’s grant eligibility not as an isolated incentive, but as part of a wider structural shift toward low-impact mobility.
As UK demand for electric vehicles continues to accelerate, the EV4’s enhanced affordability through the maximum ECG marks a decisive step in strengthening Kia’s presence in the mainstream EV market while reinforcing its long-term sustainability roadmap.
