Italy/Abu Dhabi- UAE, 28 August 2024 – The Abu Dhabi Autonomous Racing League (A2RL) has taken a significant step towards global expansion with its first-ever testing of autonomous vehicles outside the UAE. This pioneering effort, occurring in Italy, marks the beginning of a new chapter for the league, as it tests its cutting-edge SF23 racecar on some of Europe’s most challenging circuits.
The tests, spanning three days and conducted at the renowned Imola and Vallelunga circuits, represent a critical phase in A2RL’s development process. Spearheaded by Japanese racing talent Juju Noda, the sessions aim to collect essential data on vehicle dynamics, GPS trajectories, environmental radio frequency challenges, and the performance of new sensors. This data will be instrumental in refining the league’s autonomous systems and preparing for future races on diverse terrains.
Juju Noda, a rising star in the world of motorsport, is joined by former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat in this development phase. Their combined expertise promises to bring valuable insights into the SF23’s performance under both human and autonomous control. Noda, who has been racing in Japan’s Super Formula series with the SF23, brings a wealth of experience to the team. Her previous stints in the W Series and Euroformula Open further bolster her credentials.

“Testing the SF23 on these iconic Italian tracks is an exciting opportunity,” Noda remarked. “The platform is familiar, but adapting it to these new environments will be a valuable learning experience. I’m eager to contribute to the development of autonomous racing and see how our data will shape the future of the league.”
Stephane Timpano, CEO of A2RL, emphasized the importance of these tests: “Imola and Vallelunga offer unique technical challenges that will provide us with critical insights. Juju’s familiarity with the SF23 is a significant asset, and we anticipate that the data collected will be crucial for our global expansion and future AI-powered races.”
As the A2RL gears up for its expansion beyond the UAE, these tests in Italy signal the league’s commitment to pushing the boundaries of autonomous racing. With an eye on future international races, the insights gained from this venture will be pivotal in ensuring that A2RL remains at the forefront of this innovative sport.
