Upgrades to the top-selling four-stroke Suzuki DF20 and DF60 outboard motors will be the star attractions at Suzuki’s stand at the Johannesburg Boat Show which takes place at the Nasrec Expo Centre on August 8-11, 2013.

The DF20ATL is a 20 horsepower model which was introduced last year, and first seen at the 2012 Johannesburg Boat Show. Now, due to popular demand, the engine has been introduced with Power Tilt, which will make it an effortless task to raise and lower the hardy little motor.

“We will be showcasing this engine with its improvements, as well as the DF60 High Thrust motor, our 60 horsepower unit,” says Tanja Maes, Suzuki South Africa’s Marine Division Manager.

The new version of the DF60 will now come with a higher thrust compared to the current model.

“Almost the full range of Suzuki outboards will be on display, either on engine stands on fitted on boats,” says Maes.

“Another big attraction, and a bit of fun, will be a fishing simulator. It comes equipped with a real rod and show-goers can pit themselves against their friends to see who can catch the most fish in the shortest time.”

Suzuki will also be hosting a special angling section on their stand.

“Suzuki is doing very well in the South African outboard engine market, and in fact we are market leaders amongst four-stroke engines here. More and more people are turning to the four-stroke option, as they boast higher technology, and much better fuel consumption than a traditional two-stroke.”

All the new DF 20A models boast a new battery-less fuel injection system, which was a world-first in the 15 bhp (11 kW) and 20 hp (14,7 kW) classes. These engines are also combined with Suzuki’s Lean Burn Fuel Control system, which results in much easier starting and greater fuel efficiency. This new fuel injection system is much lighter than a conventional system which is important in this small engine class. The engines also feature a recoil starter which makes starting even easier.

The improvements to the DF60 see an optional “High Energy Rotation” lower unit being available. This has a new 2,42:1 gear ratio which enables the engine to turn a 14-inch propeller, adding more blade area, which makes it more efficient for heavier boats, and also when running against heavy currents.

The motor, as before, is a healthy-sounding three-cylinder 12-valve unit, with a power-head and electronic fuel injection which also incorporates Suzuki’s lean-burn technology.

“We are looking forward to another successful show,” says Tanja Maes. “The first one was good, and we are expecting with all the word of mouth that this one will be even better.”

The Johannesburg Boat Show will run at Nasrec Expo Centre, South of Johannesburg, between August 8 to 11, 2013,   and will be co-located with the AMID Motorcycle Show and the Outdoor Lifestyle Show.
