Jeep® has officially begun production of the all-new Compass at Stellantis’ Melfi plant in Italy, marking a major milestone for the brand and for European manufacturing. Built on the cutting-edge STLA Medium platform, the third-generation Compass redefines the C-SUV segment with a blend of iconic design, electrified performance, and uncompromising capability — all produced in one of Europe’s most advanced and sustainable automotive facilities.
A Compass for Every Journey
Since its debut, the Jeep Compass has become a cornerstone of the brand’s success, achieving over 2.5 million sales globally. The new generation raises the standard once again, offering buyers genuine freedom of choice through an extensive range of electrified powertrains. From the efficient 145 hp e-Hybrid and 195 hp plug-in hybrid to the fully electric variant delivering up to 375 hp and a range of 650 km, every version is engineered to deliver confidence across any terrain — whether navigating city streets, open highways, or rugged off-road landscapes.
Built on Stellantis’ new STLA Medium architecture, the Compass benefits from optimized aerodynamics with a drag coefficient of just 0.29, generous cabin space, and cutting-edge digital integration. True to Jeep DNA, its capability remains uncompromised: more than 200 mm of ground clearance, optimized approach and departure angles, and up to 480 mm of water fording make the Compass a class-leading performer. Complementing these credentials are advanced Selec-Terrain drive modes, 360-degree protection systems, and intelligent sensors that enhance both safety and off-road agility.
Inside, the Compass pairs its rugged performance with refined versatility. Efficient packaging maximizes comfort and practicality, while premium materials, intuitive digital displays, and advanced connectivity features elevate the driving experience.
Melfi: The Freedom of Production
Production of the new Compass takes place at the Stellantis Melfi plant — a site with over 30 years of manufacturing heritage and a symbol of Jeep’s commitment to European excellence. Melfi first became part of the Jeep story in 2014 as the brand’s first manufacturing site outside North America, producing the Renegade and later the Compass, including the pioneering 4xe plug-in hybrid variants. Since then, over 2.3 million Jeep vehicles have rolled off its lines.
Today, Melfi represents the next stage in industrial evolution. Its ultra-flexible assembly line gives Jeep “freedom of production,” allowing the facility to adapt instantly to market demand — and even transition to 100% BEV output if required. Spanning 1.9 million square meters and employing over 4,600 people, Melfi integrates every stage of the production cycle, from stamping and plastics to painting, assembly, and battery manufacturing. High automation is complemented by the expertise of its skilled workforce, many of whom have been part of the plant for more than two decades.

Innovation and Sustainability at the Core
The Melfi plant stands as a benchmark for Stellantis’ technological and environmental ambitions. It serves as a live testing ground for next-generation production systems, including precision laser technology for body alignment and high-resolution cameras that monitor door assembly with 100% accuracy. Meanwhile, the introduction of the advanced 4-Wet paint process reduces environmental impact by eliminating an entire coating layer.
Sustainability is deeply woven into Melfi’s operations. Energy-efficient heat pumps, eco-friendly painting systems, and an expanding portfolio of renewable energy sources — including solar panels, wind turbines, and biomethane systems recycling local agricultural waste — all contribute to Stellantis’ decarbonization roadmap. By 2030, the facility aims to generate up to 54 MW of renewable energy, covering around 70% of its total energy needs.
A Global SUV, Designed and Built in Europe
The new Compass will be one of Jeep’s most widely available models worldwide. Units produced in Melfi will be exported to over 60 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, as well as Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.
As production begins, Jeep celebrates more than a new vehicle launch — it marks a statement of intent. Designed, engineered, and built in Italy, the all-new Compass represents the evolution of Jeep’s DNA: freedom, innovation, and capability. With its versatile powertrains, refined design, and sustainable production, the Compass sets a new benchmark for the C-SUV segment and ushers in a bold new era for Jeep in Europe and beyond.
