JOHANNESBURG/SEOUL, November 17, 2025 – Hyundai Motor Company will provide 30 STARIA multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) as official transportation for the 2025 G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, supporting delegation staff from participating countries and ensuring seamless operations at the high-profile event. The summit, taking place November 22–23, marks the first G20 Leaders’ Summit on the African continent and is themed ‘Solidarity, Equality, Sustainability.’
Originally launched in December 1999 as a forum for finance ministers and central bank governors from 20 major economies—including South Korea and the European Union—the G20 has grown into a pivotal platform for addressing global economic and financial challenges. The first Leaders’ Summit was convened in 2008 in response to the global financial crisis, with member countries agreeing in 2009 to hold summits regularly, elevating the forum to its current status as a top-level international gathering.
This year’s summit is historic: it is the 20th G20 Leaders’ Summit and the first ever hosted on African soil. Heads of state from G20 member and invited countries, European Union and African Union leaders, as well as representatives from international organizations including the United Nations, International Monetary Fund, and World Bank, are expected to attend.
Hyundai Motor selected the STARIA MPV for the summit fleet for its futuristic exterior design, spacious and reconfigurable cabin, and advanced safety and convenience features, making it an ideal vehicle for transporting VIP delegates in comfort and style.
“It is deeply meaningful for us to support the first-ever G20 Summit held in Africa with our vehicles,” said Ilbum Kim, Executive Vice President and Head of the Global Policy Office at Hyundai Motor Group. “We will do our utmost to contribute to the success of this influential and significant event.”
Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, described the partnership as a landmark achievement for the brand in the region. “Being part of such a prestigious international gathering not only reinforces Hyundai’s alignment with global excellence but also highlights our capability to deliver premium transport solutions at high-level events. It affirms our dedication to supporting platforms that foster international collaboration and economic dialogue.”
The collaboration follows a Memorandum of Understanding signed in September between Hyundai Motor and South Africa’s Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) at DIRCO headquarters in Pretoria. The signing ceremony was attended by EVP Kim and Thandi Moraka, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, cementing Hyundai’s role in ensuring the summit’s operational success.
With the STARIA fleet ready to support delegates and staff, Hyundai Motor underscores its commitment to innovative mobility solutions while playing a key role in a historic moment for Africa and the global community.
