Hyundai’s smallest electric vehicle continues to impress, adding yet another prestigious accolade to its growing collection. The All-new INSTER has been named Supermini of the Year in the 2026 TopGear.com Awards, cementing its reputation as a versatile, technologically advanced, and well-equipped small EV.
The TopGear.com Awards celebrate the very best new cars on the market, judged by some of the UK’s leading motoring experts. The All-new INSTER stood out for its blend of character, efficiency, and practicality, triumphing over competitors including the Fiat Grande Panda.
Tom Ford, Associate Editor of Top Gear, said:
“The Hyundai INSTER is a heady mix of ability and sensible thinking, allied to a happy looking car. Character and ability all in one little package. It saw off the Fiat Grande Panda in our awards head-to-head because it’s simply more versatile, more efficient, faster (in terms of charging as well as physically), more fun to drive and has more kit.”
This recognition follows other recent awards for the INSTER, including 2025 World Electric Vehicle of the Year at the World Car Awards, and Best Small Electric Car for the City from What Car?.

The INSTER marks Hyundai’s first small EV designed for the European market, combining compact SUV styling with effortless city driving and strong performance on longer journeys. Drivers can enjoy a potential range of up to 229 miles, making it equally capable for urban commutes and weekend getaways.
The INSTER lineup starts with the INSTER 01 42kWh 97PS, priced from £23,505, followed by the INSTER 02 49kWh 115PS from £26,755. The ruggedly styled INSTER Cross begins at £28,755. All three variants are currently available with a £3,750 saving through the Hyundai Electric Grant, helping more drivers switch to electric mobility.
Hyundai’s wider electric range also benefits from the grant, offering an immediate £1,500 saving on models such as the IONIQ 5, IONIQ 6, IONIQ 5 N, KONA Electric, and the seven-seat IONIQ 9. These vehicles continue to impress, with multiple World Car of the Year awards and widespread recognition for performance and innovation.
Ashley Andrew, President of Hyundai & Genesis UK, commented:
“TopGear.com’s recognition of the All-new INSTER as the 2026 Supermini of the Year is further validation of the leadership of Hyundai’s electric car range. Our diverse portfolio means we can offer something for everyone, and with financial support available via the Hyundai grant, we’re making it easier for customers to experience the award-winning excellence of all our electric vehicles, as well as the benefits they can bring in terms of long-term savings.”
The All-new Hyundai INSTER continues to showcase the brand’s commitment to delivering electric vehicles that combine style, practicality, and efficiency. For more information on Hyundai’s multi award-winning range, visit www.hyundai.co.uk.
