Johannesburg, 05 November 2025 – In a vibrant celebration of learning and community empowerment, Erasmus Monareng Secondary School in Vosloorus has welcomed a brand-new library, thanks to Hyundai Automotive South Africa in partnership with DP World and Motus Community Trust.
Designed to inspire curiosity and foster academic growth, the library will serve as a hub of imagination and exploration for the school’s 1,700 learners. This initiative coincides with Hyundai Automotive South Africa’s 25-year anniversary in the country, reinforcing the company’s long-standing commitment to empowering youth through education.
“Vehicles can move people from one place to another, but education moves entire communities forward,” said Stanley Anderson, CEO of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, during the handover ceremony. “It builds futures, opens doors, and plants seeds that grow into generations of empowered individuals. Education is the legacy we want to leave in this community of Vosloorus.”
A Hub for Learning and Growth
Acting Principal Mbongiseni Hadebe welcomed the library as a vital addition to the school, noting that while infrastructure challenges remain, the dedication of the educators has never wavered. “Our school is recognised as a fully-fledged ICT school, meaning that most of our classrooms are equipped with smart boards, and teachers use both digital tools and hard copies of textbooks to enhance learning,” he explained.
The library will address one of the school’s key academic challenges: improving literacy and comprehension skills among learners. “Over the years, we have noticed that many learners, especially in languages, struggled with reading and writing. Some could not even read their own work, which affected performance across subjects,” Hadebe said.
For Grade 11 learner Relebogile Nakeng, the new library is more than just a building. “The idea of having a space where I can study properly and have access to various types of books makes me extremely happy,” she said.
Empowering Communities Through Education
Hyundai Automotive South Africa has made education the cornerstone of its community empowerment philosophy, recognising that access to knowledge creates a lasting impact. To date, the company has established 23 community libraries across the country, each aimed at inspiring curiosity and opportunity for young learners.
Anderson highlighted the critical role of teachers in shaping future leaders. “Every profession in the world has been influenced by teachers. Listen to them, respect them, and allow them to nurture your growth,” he told learners. “At Hyundai, supported by DP World and Motus Community Trust, we are committed to supporting your journey. For those with a passion or interest in joining us after tertiary studies, our doors are open.”
A Legacy of Excellence
Despite the challenges faced by the school, Erasmus Monareng Secondary has consistently delivered strong academic results, averaging an 80% matric pass rate over the past five years. Hadebe shared ambitious goals for 2025, with 266 Grade 12 learners aiming for a 95% pass rate. Highlighting the school’s potential, he recounted a proud moment when one learner achieved 100% in Mathematics—a testament to the excellence that can emerge from township schools.
The new library stands as a symbol of hope and empowerment—a space where young minds can thrive, dreams can take shape, and the legacy of education can continue to transform the Vosloorus community.
