Kelham Hall, Nottinghamshire – H&H Classics marked a remarkable milestone with its first-ever auction at the historic Kelham Hall on Wednesday, 10th September, producing exceptional results and attracting a truly international audience. Bidders dialled in from mainland Europe, Australia, the United States, and Singapore, drawn by a carefully curated selection of classic, collector, and performance cars, alongside a range of automobilia.
In total, 62 lots went under the hammer, collectively realising over £2 million, with numerous vehicles exceeding their estimated values.
A Star Among Stars: 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster
The undisputed highlight of the auction was the bespoke 1963 Mercedes-Benz 300SL Roadster ‘Rallywagen’, which achieved a stunning £761,875, comfortably eclipsing its £750,000 top estimate. The sale drew fierce competition across the auction room, on the phones, and online—a reflection of the car’s rarity and enduring desirability. This Roadster is one of only 209 alloy block, disc brake 300SLs ever produced, though now fitted with a more robust cast-iron block, adding to its unique provenance.
James McWilliam, Sales Manager at H&H Classics, remarked: “It was an amazing result for the 300SL Roadster and a great way to mark our first-ever auction at Kelham Hall. Befitting the wonderful surroundings, the sale comprised an exclusive gathering of sought-after and collectible classic cars, and it was a delight to see so many wonderful lots finding new homes.”

Other Notable Motorcars
The auction showcased several other high-profile sales, including a rare 1968 Rolls-Royce Phantom VI Limousine from the first year of production, hammered at £57,375—more than £22,000 above its lower estimate. Just 374 examples of the Phantom VI were ever made, underscoring its significance for collectors.
A 1961 Jaguar MkII upgraded to ‘Fast Road’ specification sold for £60,188, £15,188 above its lower estimate. The car came complete with approximately 700 restoration photographs, highlighting its meticulous care.
A quintessentially British 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 also impressed, selling for £43,312—over £13,300 above its lower estimate—supported by an extensive history file. Meanwhile, a rare 2000 Rolls-Royce Corniche V Convertible achieved £68,625, £8,625 above estimate, demonstrating the enduring appeal of high-spec modern classics.

- 1973 BMW E9 3.0 CSi: £55,125, £5,100+ above estimate
- 1973 Jensen Interceptor III: £29,812, £4,800+ above estimate
Automobilia Spotlight
The star automobilia lot was a restored Austin J40 Pedal Car, which achieved £3,900, £900 above its lower estimate, proving that even miniature classics can attract significant collector interest.
