After nearly ten years at the helm of Women on the Move Against Cancer (WOMAC), Georgia Fox is preparing to step down as Chair at the end of June. Her departure marks the close of an extraordinary chapter in the organisation’s journey — one defined by dedication, empathy, and tangible impact in the fight against cancer.
Founded in 1979, WOMAC is a collective of female volunteers from across the automotive industry who unite around a singular mission: to support cancer charities that improve treatment outcomes, enhance patient care, and ease the burden on families and carers. Over the years, it has built a formidable reputation for its fundraising efforts and the deep-rooted camaraderie of its members.
Georgia first joined WOMAC as a Patron in 1988, later stepping onto the Committee in 2015. A year later, she succeeded the late Janet Wilkinson as Chair. Reflecting on her journey, Georgia remarked:
“It was an honour to become a Patron of WOMAC back in 1988, and an even greater privilege to join the Committee in 2015. I was incredibly proud to be announced as Chair in 2016, taking over from the wonderful Janet Wilkinson, whose commitment and leadership during her 12-year service was truly inspiring.”
Under her leadership, WOMAC has supported 14 cancer charities — with the 2025 beneficiaries, BRIGHT Cancer Care and Skcin, taking the total to 16 — and raised close to £200,000. This milestone is a powerful testament to the tenacity and generosity of the WOMAC community and Georgia’s unwavering stewardship.
Her tenure has been defined by deeply personal moments. From funding a serene garden at The Royal Marsden in memory of Lynda Shewan to supporting Pancreatic Cancer UK after the loss of the beloved Jon Morgan, WOMAC’s initiatives have consistently honoured friends and colleagues lost to cancer.
“Looking back through my old notes as a Patron has brought back a wave of emotions, moments of pride and sorrow,” said Georgia. “We made donations in memory of dear friends we’d lost to cancer including Carol Frater and Russell Bulgin. And we’ve been there for those still fighting, helping smaller charities that often go unnoticed but do extraordinary work.”
One of her most moving recollections was WOMAC’s support for Dimbleby Cancer Care in 2020. The charity had been nominated by the late Sue Baker, a cherished figure in the motoring media world.

“Sue, who was already unwell, came on stage and told us how fortunate she felt to see first-hand the care and compassion the centre provided. Her words stay with me to this day, a reminder of the extraordinary strength people can show, and how powerful it is when our industry comes together for a cause.”
WOMAC’s upcoming 2025 fundraiser promises to be a fitting tribute to Georgia’s legacy. Set against the stunning backdrop of the Corinthian Roof Terrace at the Kia Oval, the event on 17 June invites the automotive industry to gather for an evening of networking, generosity, and shared purpose. With two fully stocked bars, delicious food, and panoramic views of the iconic cricket ground, the evening is poised to be both impactful and unforgettable.
Georgia remains quick to acknowledge the collective effort behind WOMAC’s success:
“None of this would have been possible without the incredible WOMAC Committee. Their dedication and energy make our events not just successful, but truly meaningful. Although I’m stepping back as Chair, I’ll still be at our events, proudly wearing my Patron hat and extracting money from guests with a smile!”
She also expressed her confidence in the future of the organisation:
“I have every confidence in the next Chair and look forward to supporting her as she takes the reins and guides WOMAC into its next chapter. With heartfelt thanks to all who have supported WOMAC and me over the years, this journey has meant the world.”
Georgia Fox will officially step down at the end of June. Her successor will be announced in due course.
