Ricardo has announced the next stage of the development of its rapidly expanding business in the Asia-Pacific region, with the formation of a new strategic business entity to be headed by former senior Autoliv and Brose Automotive executive Gary Tan
Garry Tan has followed a long and distinguished career encompassing senior leadership roles in the developing automotive markets of the Asia-Pacific region. These have included successful periods as the president Asia-Pacific for Brose Automotive and as regional technical and marketing director of Autoliv. Prior to this, he worked with Robert Bosch in both commercial and project roles within the ASEAN region.
A Malaysian national, Tan was awarded a degree in aerospace engineering from Iowa State University in the US and spent his early career with Boeing in Australia. The breadth and extent of his international business experience is extremely impressive; truly multi-lingual, he speaks seven languages and has lived and worked in North America, India, Singapore, Australia, Thailand, China as well as his native Malaysia.

Over the coming weeks Tan will take over responsibility as president of Ricardo Shanghai from interim president, Ashley Fernihough, who returns to his full time role as Ricardo UK commercial director. The Ricardo Shanghai Technical Centre will then form the nucleus of the new Ricardo Asia organization, which will be charged with spearheading growth across the Asia Pacific region, initially focusing on the Korean, Malaysian and Chinese markets.
